What can I tell you about Paul Thomas Anderson? Simply that I love the films of this filmmaker. Besides, he belongs to the generation of Quentin Tarantino, who is older only by about 8 years. Coincidentally both are friends and have several things in common, but I'll only tell you two: the first is that they don't have an extensive filmography, but each one is worth a thousand.

What is the second thing they have in common? Here comes the most important thing for me and why I admire them: they are passionate about the seventh art and they make the films they like. Maybe this is the secret of their success, they make the movies they like, without caring what the average viewer thinks.

I open a parenthesis here, I write about cinema, I don't consider myself an expert at all, but it's what I'm passionate about and I don't limit myself. I don't care if I get 8000 words. I write for me, if there are others who are really interested and like what I write, welcome. If they don't like to read, then go on your way, don't waste your time and don't give yourself a bad life, it's very short. That's the freedom that the platform gives us, to write and consume what we want.

Filmmakers like Paul Thomas Anderson are the ones who inspire me and make me love cinema more and more. It's not just this filmmaker, the list is long, everyone I admire represents that free spirit of telling stories they love. In the case of those of us who are dedicated to writing about film, we have to do it for ourselves, the important thing is that we like it as an author. Abro un paréntesis aquí, escribo sobre cine, no me considero para nada un experto, pero es lo que me apasiona y no me limito. Me da igual que me salgan 8000 palabras. Escribo para mí, si hay otros que realmente están interesados y les gusta lo que escribo, bienvenido sea. Si no les gusta leer, pues sigan su camino, no pierdan el tiempo y no se den mala vida, que es muy corta. Esa es la libertad que nos da la plataforma, escribir y consumir lo que queramos.

Cineastas como Paul Thomas Anderson son los que me inspiran y me hacen amar el cine cada vez más. No es sólo este cineasta, la lista es larga, todos los que admiro representan ese espíritu libre de contar historias que les gusta. A Anderson no le preocupa lo que pueda gustar o no al espectador, por eso sus películas no atraen al público masivo, pero sabe que no está solo, que en muchas partes del mundo hay gente que apreciará sus obras de arte.

Todo artista, en cualquier campo, debe centrarse en hacer lo que le apasiona. Si eres músico, tienes que hacer la música que te gusta. En el caso de los que nos dedicamos a escribir sobre cine, tenemos que hacerlo para nosotros, lo importante es que nos guste como autor. Lo más importante es que te sientas bien escribiendo. ¿Qué esta generación no lee mucho? No podemos hacer nada para cambiar eso, la culpa es de la educación que han recibido en casa y en la escuela.

Un ejemplo que siempre pongo es David Simon, creador de la mejor serie de la historia: The Wire. Serie que no tuvo audiencias estratosféricas, que duró cinco temporadas (fue casi un milagro) pero Simon hizo lo que quería hacer, sin importarle lo que pensara el espectador medio. Incluso los premios más importantes de la televisión estadounidense nunca lo premiaron, pero más de 20 años después, su trabajo sigue siendo relevante y forma parte de lo mejor de la historia de la televisión, no sólo en ese país, creo que en todo el mundo.

¿Por qué toda esta introducción? Simplemente porque es mi publicación y quiero expresarme libremente, además de que me emociono cuando escribo sobre directores y películas que me recuerdan por qué me gusta tanto consumir y contar historias. Lo siento, pero yo hago mis críticas así, sólo busco los nombres de los actores para escribirlas correctamente, todo lo demás es lo que se me ocurre en el momento de redactar.

Volviendo al punto del primer amor, para muchos sucede en la época de la adolescencia, donde las hormonas parecen un súper tren corriendo a miles de kilómetros por minuto. Es una eta preciosa y Licorice Pizza nos regala en imágenes una fantástica historia de amor entre un joven y una mujer, unos años mayor que él, con la que compartirán momentos de amistad, se convertirán en socios de negocios, pero a pesar de todo ello, parece que cada uno sabotea los momentos que podrían definir la relación.

El miedo, la inseguridad, la búsqueda del yo interior, por parte de los dos protagonistas marcarán por completo la relación. Ambos se aman, aunque a veces la diferencia de edad es determinante, por el comportamiento infantil que suele tener Gary, propio de un adolescente. Mientras que Alana tiene una visión más madura de las cosas. Parecen perfectos cuando están juntos, pero también se hieren lo suficiente como para alejarse el uno del otro, aunque en el fondo se mueren de amor.

I don't judge him, he is a human being like us, they are not gods, they feel the same as us and well, what can we do, he seems to get in a bad mood when he loses hahahaha.

Although the story is set in the San Fernando Valley, a place where the director lived for a long time, it is not an autobiographical film, of course he recreates the whole environment based on his own memories, but the story of the protagonist, is mostly based on the life of his friend and successful producer Gary Goetzman, who is a partner of Tom Hanks (pure heavyweights). That producer told him part of his life as a child actor and then as a young entrepreneur in his youth. The filmmaker took Gary's life story and constructed the film's script. Another point that makes the film feel so authentic is that it is these two men's memories of the best time of anyone's life, their youth.

Traigo esto a colación porque para los seguidores del cineasta no es un secreto que fue pareja de la cantante Fiona Apple y ella contó hace tiempo, que tras perder en una ceremonia de ese premio, Anderson se enfureció y destruyó una silla de su casa. No lo juzgo, es un ser humano como nosotros, no son dioses, sienten lo mismo que nosotros y bueno, qué le vamos a hacer, parece que se pone de mal humor cuando pierde jajajaja.

Aunque la historia está ambientada en el Valle de San Fernando, lugar en el que el director vivió durante mucho tiempo, no es una película autobiográfica, claro que recrea todo el entorno basándose en sus propios recuerdos, pero la historia del protagonista, está basada en su mayor parte en la vida de su amigo y exitoso productor Gary Goetzman, que es socio de Tom Hanks (puros pesos pesados). Ese productor le contó parte de su vida como actor infantil y luego como joven empresario en su juventud. El cineasta tomó la historia de vida de Gary y construyó el guión de la película.
