On this occasion I am going to make a double film review of two films that besides having in common the genre, both are the first films of their respective directors. The first one is completely of the horror genre, the second one also falls into that genre, but adds a bit of suspense and black comedy. I hope that after reading my post, you will be looking forward to see both movies.
En esta ocasión voy a hacer una doble crítica cinematográfica de dos películas que además de tener en común el género, ambas son las primeras películas de sus respectivos directores. La primera es completamente del género de terror, la segunda también entra en ese género, pero añade un poco de suspense y comedia negra. Espero que después de leer mi post, tengan ganas de ver ambas películas.

I saw them a few weeks apart, I liked them both, you know my taste for the horror genre and I think these films are excellent choices for lovers of this type of cinema. They are not big productions, but I assure you that you will be satisfied with their stories.

Believe me, when someone writes or states an opinion about something they are not passionate about, it is going to show.
The two films that I will recommend, are not totally perfect, but the first of them was the one that I liked the most, it is the least conventional and the one that assumes greater narrative risk, the second film its development is more conventional, but it is also worth watching for its snippets of black comedy.
One is a British production and the other an American one. Totally opposite in form and style, I hope my post will encourage you to see both films. That's my goal, every time I write about a movie - to convince you to see it!!!, especially when it's one of my favorite genres.

Las vi con pocas semanas de diferencia, las dos me gustaron, ustedes conocen mi gusto por el género de terror y creo que estas películas son excelentes opciones para los amantes de este tipo de cine. No son grandes producciones, pero te aseguro que quedarás satisfecho con sus historias.
Te recuerdo que me atraen las operas primas. Esas primeras producciones que ya tienen el sello de autores prometedores que quieren contarnos buenas historias y hacer cine con amor.

que transmitirán esa pasión a la pantalla. Esto también debería ser así para los que escriben sobre cine, amor y respeto por las obras cinematográficas, no importa si son grandes o pequeñas producciones. Créanme, cuando alguien escribe o expone una opinión sobre algo que no le apasiona, se va a notar.
Las dos películas que recomendaré, no son totalmente perfectas, pero la primera de ellas fue la que más me gustó, es la menos convencional y la que asume mayor riesgo narrativo, la segunda película su desarrollo es más convencional, pero también vale la pena verla por sus retazos de comedia negra.
Una es una producción británica y la otra americana. Totalmente opuestas en forma y estilo, espero que mi post les anime a ver ambas películas. Es mi objetivo, cada vez que escribo sobre una película. ¡Convencerte de que la vea!, especialmente cuando se trata de uno de mis géneros favoritos.
The Feast
What is the plot?
Glenda and Gwyn are a married couple living in a wooded area near a village in Wales, they have two teenage children. The couple have invited some landowning neighbors and a business partner/friend to dinner. To host the dinner, they have enlisted the services of a local girl, Cadi, who has recently suffered a family tragedy. What this family does not expect is that the night they had planned as a great party where they will get an excellent business, turns into a horrendous nightmare. Why are they organizing the dinner? What is the business they want to do? Why is this family so strange? Who is Cadi?

The Surprise
I had the film on my waiting list for a month, I did not have much information about the film, the only thing I knew is that it is the first film of Welsh filmmaker Lee Haven Jones who had experience as an actor and started in directing, with some television series, including the famous and long-running series Doctor Who.
For me it was an extraordinary surprise, the filmmaker takes a risk and has decided to tell the story in the Welsh language, making a difference for those of us who are used to see British productions only in English.
It also came as a surprise that he chose a horror story as his debut. Taking classic elements of the genre and adapting it with old legends of his country.
Soul
While watching the film I could feel that it was made with a lot of passion, because it is a film that has soul. As I said at the beginning, whatever we do with true passion, the viewer or reader will feel it in every image or word.
The Feast is a film with soul, shot in a language that many of us don't know and set in landscapes with centuries of history, legends and myths of a past full of magic and an incredible culture.
Eco Horror
Based on ancient Welsh stories, the filmmaker delves into the field of eco Horror and even uses his film to launch a strong criticism against the system that devastates mother nature to extract all its wealth.
With static shots we see the contrast that exists in that beautiful landscape surrounded by forests and the house of a modern and minimalist architectural design with luxuries inside. It produces a visual shock, exposing that man-made construction as an intruder within those lands.
In other reviews I explained the evolution of the sub-genre known as Eco Horror. The latest trends bet on stories in which nature seeks the means to protect itself from the destruction and mistreatment perpetrated by the hand of the human being, who full of greed does not care about the ecological damage he can cause. Nature is very important in this story, although we spend more time inside that house that seems very safe, but the forest and myths of the past, will find a way to penetrate deep into that fortress and wreak havoc.
La sorpresa
Tenía la película en mi lista de espera desde hace un mes, no tenía mucha información sobre la película, lo único que sabía es que es la primera película del cineasta galés Lee Haven Jones que tenia experiencia como actor y empezó en la dirección, con algunas series de televisión, entre ellas la famosa y longeva serie Doctor Who.
Para mí fue una sorpresa extraordinaria, el cineasta se arriesga y ha decidido contar la historia en el idioma galés, marcando la diferencia para los que estamos acostumbrados a ver las producciones británicas sólo en inglés.
También sorprendió que eligiera una historia de terror como debut. Tomando elementos clásicos del género y adaptándolo con viejas leyendas de su país.
Alma
Mientras veía la película podía sentir que estaba hecha con mucha pasión, porque es una película que tiene alma. Como decía al principio, todo lo que hagamos con verdadera pasión, el espectador o lector lo sentirá en cada imagen o palabra.
El Festín es una película con alma, rodada en un idioma que muchos desconocemos y ambientada en paisajes con siglos de historia, leyendas y mitos de un pasado lleno de magia y una cultura increíble.
Eco Horror
Basándose en antiguas historias galesas, el cineasta se adentra en el campo del eco Horror e incluso utiliza su película para lanzar una fuerte crítica contra el sistema que devasta la madre naturaleza para extraer toda su riqueza.
Con tomas estáticas vemos el contraste que existe en ese hermoso paisaje rodeado de bosques y la casa de un diseño arquitectónico moderno y minimalista con lujos en su interior. Produce un choque visual, exponiendo esa construcción hecha por el hombre como un intruso dentro de esas tierras.
En otras reseñas expliqué la evolución del sub genero conocido como Eco Horror. Las últimas tendencias apuestan por historias en las que la naturaleza busca los medios para protegerse de la destrucción y el maltrato perpetrado por la mano del ser humano, que lleno de codicia no se preocupa por el daño ecológico que puede causar. La naturaleza es muy importante en esta historia, aunque pasemos mas tiempo en el interior de esa casa que parece muy segura, pero el bosque y mitos del pasado, encontraran a forma de penetrar hasta lo profundo de esa fortaleza y causar estragos.
The feast
The meticulously prepared dinner serves as a metaphor for the greed and hunger of humans to devour everything. The rabbits hunted by the man of the hunt highlight that the strongest and most skilled are the ones who get the best. The luxurious life of the family and the dysfunctional relationship with their children, shows that selfishness and envy are factors that are destroying them, but they don't really care, as long as they can pretend otherwise and have a life with comforts.
What is the cost of having all these benefits, what are they willing to sacrifice, apparently society is becoming more corrupt every day, values are in decline and only success at any price matters, the party prepared is the representation of all the rottenness that eats away at people.
Cadi
Played by the Welsh actress Antes Elwys is the character that will enter the life of this family to further destabilize their already disastrous relationship. Who is this young woman? What has recently happened in her life? Why is she acting strangely? Cadi opens up many questions, which will gradually be answered.
Just as a wonderful dinner is prepared, the film cooks at a slow but precise pace, so that we can enjoy the disturbing feast that Cadi has prepared for us. I assure you that everyone will be ecstatic to taste this delicious and disturbing film.
Are there plot twists? Of course, skillfully the filmmaker introduces some details so that when the final climax occurs, everything makes sense. Nothing is placed at random. The script is well structured and the atmosphere of madness felt in that house in the middle of nature has a reason to be.
Nature will act in unimaginable ways to do justice and unleash chaos.
El festín
La cena meticulosamente preparada sirve como metáfora de la codicia y el hambre de los humanos por devorarlo todo. Los conejos cazados por uno de los personaje, ponen de relieve que los más fuertes y hábiles son los que se llevan lo mejor. La vida lujosa de la familia y la relación disfuncional con sus hijos, muestra que el egoísmo y la envidia son factores que los están destruyendo, pero en realidad no les importa, mientras puedan fingir lo contrario y tener una vida con comodidades.
¿Cuál es el costo de tener todos esos beneficios? ¿Qué estan dispuestos a sacrificar?Aparentemente la sociedad cada día se corrompe mas, los valores estan en decadencia y solo importa obtener el éxito a cualquier precio, la fiesta preparada es la representación de toda la podredumbre que carcome a las personas.
Cadi
Interpretado por la actriz galesa Antes Elwys es el personaje que entrará en la vida de esta familia para desestabilizar aún más su ya desastrosa relación. ¿Quién es esta joven? ¿Qué ha pasado recientemente en su vida? ¿Por qué actúa de forma extraña? Cadi abre muchas preguntas, que poco a poco se irán respondiendo.
Al igual que se prepara una maravillosa cena, la película se cocina a un ritmo lento pero preciso, para que podamos disfrutar del inquietante festín que Cadi nos ha preparado. Les aseguro que todos quedarán extasiados al degustar esta deliciosa y perturbadora película.
¿Hay giros argumentales? Por supuesto, hábilmente el cineasta introduce algunos detalles para que cuando se produzca el clímax final, todo tenga sentido. Nada está colocado al azar. El guión está bien estructurado y la atmósfera de locura que se siente en esa casa en medio de la naturaleza tiene una razón de ser.
La naturaleza actuará de formas inimaginables para hacer justicia y desatar el caos.

What is the plot of Fresh?
Nos is a pretty girl who doesn't have a boyfriend, she resorts to blind dates and dating apps to try to find a partner or at least someone to have a good time with, but they are all failures. One night, while grocery shopping, she meets Steve, a handsome and funny man. They quickly hit it off and begin a relationship. Everything seems great, although her best friend doesn't have much confidence because Steve doesn't have social networks and she has only seen him in a blurry photo. One weekend Steve invites Noa to spend a few days in a house on the outskirts of the city, the young woman is in love and does not realize the danger she will run. Who is Steve, is his real name, what are his intentions with Noa, is she prepared to survive the hell she is going to live?

Blind dates
The world is full of dangers and dating strangers is one of them. I remember when I was very young and the internet was spreading in my country, I went on blind dates with some girls, my experience was just as disastrous as what happens to the protagonist girl, but those were other times and society was not infected with so much evil.
In today's world, it's hard not to be suspicious and fearful of a totally blind date or even letting a stranger into your home. There is so much evil in the world and it seems like the crazies are unleashed. There are all kinds of risks, they can be criminals or serial killers. What do you think about these blind dates, did you have any? After watching this movie I think you will think twice when a beautiful and charming person appears out of nowhere.
The devil has a pretty face
I like movies where evil has a pretty face. In most movies evil is always depicted with some feature that denotes ugliness, be it the villain with scars, physical flaws, etc. and the hero. In most cases he is the handsome one in the show. In Fresh the bad guy has a pretty face and is also very charming, just as in real life, where many people who do evil are physically graceful. Not just the ugly ones, just the bad guys. Hahaha.
La carne
El póster de la película disponible en la plataforma de streaming Hulu es lo suficientemente explícito como para que todo el mundo se haga una idea del argumento de la película, quizá eso le quite un poco de sorpresa porque es obvio que la carne humana es el eje central de la historia.
¿Te has preguntado alguna vez a qué sabrá nuestra carne? El canibalismo es un tema que se ha tratado en diversas obras literarias y cinematográficas. Yo me he hecho esa pregunta, pero también le aseguro que no quiero saber la respuesta.
A lo largo de la historia ha habido casos reales de canibalismo, algunos impulsados por el hambre, otros por su propia locura. En mi país hubo un caso de un trastornado que asesinó a otros para comérselos. También está el caso de los sobrevivientes de la tragedia aérea de Los Andes, que tuvieron que comer carne humana para sobrevivir, no tenían otra opción.
Uno de los mejores psicópatas de la literatura y el cine es Hannibal Lecter, un personaje al que le gusta comer a otros humanos y que en la adaptación televisiva preparaba un exquisito manjar con cualquier parte del cuerpo humano. Sí, es inquietante imaginarlo en la vida real, pero en el caso de las historias de ficción, las disfruto mucho.
En esta ocasión el gusto por consumir carne humana está presente, pero no sólo como una psicopatía de uno de los personajes, la cineasta que también escribió el guión expone el tema como una industria donde las mentes más enfermas, que tienen el dinero para hacer lo que quieren, son las que ejercen el poder de consumir la carne fresca.
Citas a ciegas
El mundo está lleno de peligros y salir con desconocidos es uno de ellos. Recuerdo que cuando era muy joven y el internet se estaba extendiendo en mi país, tuve citas a ciegas con algunas chicas, mi experiencia fue igual de desastrosa que la que le sucede a la chica protagonista, pero eran otros tiempos y la sociedad no estaba infectada de tanta maldad.
En el mundo actual, es difícil no desconfiar y temer una cita totalmente a ciegas o incluso dejar entrar a un desconocido en tu casa. Hay tanta maldad en el mundo y parece que los locos están desatados. Hay todo tipo de riesgos, pueden ser criminales o asesinos en serie. ¿Qué piensas de estas citas a ciegas, tuviste alguna? Después de ver esta película creo que lo pensaras dos veces cuando aparezca una persona guapa y encantadora de la nada.
El diablo tiene una cara bonita
Me gustan las películas en las que el mal tiene una cara bonita. En la mayoría de las películas el mal siempre es representado con algún rasgo que denota fealdad, ya sea el villano con cicatrices, defectos físicos, etc. y el héroe. En la mayoría de los casos es el guapo de la función. En Fresh el malo tiene una cara bonita y además es muy encantador, al igual que en la vida real, donde mucha gente que hace el mal es físicamente agraciada. No solo los feos solo los malos. Jajaja.
Survival
There are several genres that this American production handles, suspense, thriller, horror, humor and finally the survival. Our heroine is Noa, a woman of fragile physical appearance who must use her intelligence and seduction to survive long enough to devise an escape plan.
Mimi Cave is the filmmaker who directs this entertaining film, her plot becomes more conventional after the surprise plot twist occurs, but for her first film I think she does a very acceptable job.
I have to repeat something I said some time ago in another of my posts, there are several female filmmakers making horror films and they deserve more attention. Fortunately she has made this for Hulu which is currently becoming known for its original productions, at least the film will reach a thick cross section of the audience.
I was checking the Instagram of the filmmaker who has a background in art direction, her photographs on that social network are beautiful and clearly define her style. Google her name and you will see her Instagram.
The main characters
British actress Daisy Edgar-Jones plays the role of the attractive Noa. A woman who believes she has found the most charming man in the world without knowing that he only sees her as a product to be sold, even though she manages to seduce him. The actress has been nominated in the past for several awards, including the Golden Globe, although she is not so well known by the public, she has a successful career, she stood out in the series Normal People and is making her way in the world of show business.
Sebastian Stan is now a very well known actor, the boost that being part of Marvel gave him has catapulted his career and a few weeks ago I saw him playing Tommy Lee in the miniseries Pam & Tommy. In the movie he plays Steve, that super handsome and funny man who falls in love with Noa, supposedly he is dedicated to plastic surgery and promises Noa to spend an unforgettable weekend, time to take off his mask and show the face of evil.
These two actors are the ones who have more screen time and whose characters are more developed, the rest of the cast are supporting actors who are there for something specific.
Cannibal love
The love relationship of the characters is very important and is a decisive factor for the outcome of the story. Noa will be forced to do something horrible to gain the trust of that sick being. How do you seduce a monster? By doing the same monstrosity he does. The human survival instinct makes us capable of anything.
Steve is not alone either, part of his daily life is shown on screen, he is a man who even has a family he loves, and it will not be the first time that the cannibal feels love for one of his victims. Even the most horrible of psychopaths can fall in love, right?
The film doesn't need a lot of gory scenes, the filmmaker keeps a good pace throughout the film and its most disturbing scenes are the ones that take place in complete calm. In its final stretch it is essential that physical violence is present, but it is neither abused nor extremely explicit.
Beware of strangers, even if they have Sebastian Stan's body and face, you may end up being someone's dinner somewhere in this crazy world.
Supervivencia
Son varios los géneros que maneja esta producción americana, suspense, thriller, terror, humor y al final el de supervivencia. Nuestra heroína es Noa, una mujer de apariencia física frágil que debe usar su inteligencia y seducción para sobrevivir el tiempo suficiente para idear un plan de escape.
Mimi Cave es la realizadora que dirige esta entretenida película, su argumento se vuelve más convencional después de que se produce el giro argumental sorpresa, pero para ser su primera película creo que hace un trabajo muy aceptable.
Tengo que repetir algo que dije hace tiempo en otro de mis posts, hay varias mujeres cineastas haciendo películas de terror y merecen más atención. Afortunadamente ella ha hecho esto para Hulu que actualmente se está dando a conocer por sus producciones originales, al menos la película llegará a un grueso sector de la audiencia.
Estuve revisando el Instagram de la cineasta que tiene formación en dirección de arte, sus fotografías en esa red social son hermosas y definen claramente su estilo. Busca su nombre en Google y verás su Instagram.
Los personajes principales
La actriz británica Daisy Edgar-Jones interpreta el papel de la atractiva Noa. Una mujer que cree haber encontrado al hombre más encantador del mundo sin saber que él sólo la ve como un producto a vender, aunque ella consiga seducirlo. La actriz ha sido nominada en el pasado a varios premios, entre ellos el Globo de Oro, aunque no es tan conocida por el público, tiene una carrera de éxito, destacó en la serie Normal People y se está abriendo camino en el mundo del espectáculo.
Sebastian Stan es ahora un actor muy conocido, el empuje que le dio ser parte de Marvel ha catapultado su carrera y hace unas semanas lo vi interpretando a Tommy Lee en la miniserie Pam & Tommy. En la película interpreta a Steve, ese hombre súper guapo y divertido que se enamora de Noa, supuestamente se dedica a la cirugía plástica y le promete a Noa pasar un fin de semana inolvidable, tiempo que aprovechara para quitarse la máscara y mostrar la cara del mal.
Estos dos actores son los que tienen más tiempo en pantalla y cuyos personajes si están más desarrollados, el resto del reparto son actores secundarios que están ahí para algo en especifico.
Amor caníbal
La relación amorosa de los personajes es muy importante y es un factor decisivo para el desenlace de la historia. Noa se verá obligada a hacer algo horrible para ganarse la confianza de ese ser enfermo. ¿Cómo se seduce a un monstruo? Haciendo la misma monstruosidad que él. El instinto de supervivencia humano nos hace capaces de cualquier cosa.
Steve tampoco está solo, parte de su vida cotidiana se muestra en pantalla, es un hombre que incluso tiene una familia a la que quiere, y no será la primera vez que el caníbal sienta amor por una de sus víctimas. Hasta el más horrible de los psicópatas puede enamorarse, ¿no?
La película no necesita muchas escenas sangrientas, el cineasta mantiene un buen ritmo durante todo el metraje y sus escenas más perturbadoras son las que transcurren en completa calma. En su tramo final es imprescindible que la violencia física esté presente, pero no se abusa de ella ni es extremadamente explícita.
Ten cuidado con los desconocidos, aunque tengan el cuerpo y la cara de Sebastián Stan, puedes acabar siendo la cena de alguien en algún lugar de este loco mundo.

I hope these two recommendations are to your liking and you get to see them. Again, I like the Welsh film much better, the filmmaker has a more elegant style and the story engages more in the way it is told. Also, if you like films that tell things at a slower pace, it will also be your favorite.
You may like the second film better, as it has a faster pace and is a more conventionally told story, it may suit your tastes better, it all depends. I was able to enjoy both, because I like to be told a good story and both are worth watching.

Puede que la segunda película te guste más, ya que tiene un ritmo más rápido y es una historia contada de forma más convencional, puede que se adapte mejor a tus gustos, todo depende. Yo pude disfrutar de las dos, porque me gusta que me cuenten una buena historia y las dos merecen la pena ser vistas.
