Top gun seems to be taking the spotlight this year. I heard people talk about it online and offline. My cousins even went to the cinema to watch the movie and tried to persuade me to go. I personally came across countless articles that reviews it, praising Tom Cruise, and overall just a bunch of appraisal towards the movie. After the hype died down, I was curious;

What’s so good about it?

I asked my mom if she ever watched top gun and she said yes. She even mentioned how good the movie was and how it influenced her friends to buy bomber jackets, aviator sungglasses and have moustache. She later watched the recent one and thought it was also cool. Was it really that cool?

So, I tried watching the movie only to find it's a pretty boring action movie. Don’t get me wrong, I like action movies but Top Gun wasn’t something that I found thrilling nor entertaining. It bore me to death. Maybe I am not too patient but I only skipped the part with Miles playing piano which was already in the quarter of the movie. I do not understand any single excitement that people get from this movie. Is it because there are a bunch of jacked shirtless dudes? What is it that gets people excited and find it entertaining about the movie?

I only like the part with Miles where he looks pretty dashing playing the piano and having fun. As for the rest of the story and the part where Tom Cruise was in action, I found those pretty boring. I know, this is also sort of a late review about it but that’s because I find it difficult to really write something I find extremely boring.

I think in order to truly appreciate the movie is to watch the older version first. Maybe this is why older people like my mom get excited about this movie making a comeback. They have watched the first one and understood the plot. But for me, that disconnection impacted my overall impression about this movie.
