Una de las nombradas mejores películas del 2020, nos relata la historia de una familia queriendo ser parte de un nuevo mundo... "Minari".
Dentro de pocas semanas serán la entrega de los Oscars y es por eso que decidí que en estos próximos días me enfocaré a hacer reseñas de las nominadas a "Mejor Película", es por eso que quiero comenzar con esta actividad justamente con el film ganador del Sundance Festival del 2020, "Minari", un film americano dirigido, escrito y protagonizado por Sur Coreanos. Anteriormente he escrito sobre dos películas nominadas de esta lista de ocho y es por eso que al final les dejaré el link de esas películas para que lean mis reseñas y se animen en ver estos films.
One of the best movies of 2020, it tells the story of a family wanting to be part of a new world... "Minari."
In a few weeks the Oscars will be awarded and that's why I decided that in the next few days I will focus on reviewing the nominees for "Best Picture", that's why I want to start this activity with the winning film of the Sundance Festival of 2020, "Minari ", an American film directed, written and starred by South Koreans. I have previously written about two nominated films from this list of eight and that is why at the end I will leave you the link to those films so that you can read my reviews and be motivated to watch these films.
Siempre me han gustado películas del drama en dónde se enfoca en como un grupo de personas, una pareja o una sola en particular deben enfrentar diferentes situaciones que podrán superarlas o aprender a vivir de esa experiencia, tal vez con esto pueda describir de forma muy simple un gran número de films, pero siempre he creído que para cualquier proyecto debe haber una base de dónde comenzar y justamente en este film sucede eso; en Minari vemos la historia de una familia Surcoreana que busca en un nuevo país tener un nuevo comienzo en donde puedan hacer algo nuevo; está es una historia en donde desde una nueva base se puede desarrollar un cambio de vida, una vida llena de oportunidades, pensando en una estabilidad y en un futuro, pero justamente de tener nuevas experiencias podrán tener cambios como por ejemplo tener una nueva visión de cómo vivir en un nuevo país, esto hará que tengan nuevas presiones de las que ya tenían y eso significara superar nuevas pruebas que los hará pensar que tan fuerte son como familia.
I have always liked drama films where it focuses on how a group of people, a couple or one in particular must face different situations that can overcome them or learn to live from that experience, perhaps with this I can describe in a very simple way a large number of films, but I have always believed that for any project there must be a base from which to start and just in this film that happens; in Minari we see the story of a South Korean family that seeks in a new country to have a new beginning where they can do something new; this is a story where from a new base they can develop a change of life, a life full of opportunities, thinking about stability and a future, but just by having new experiences they can have changes such as having a new vision of how to live in a new country, this will cause them to have new pressures than the ones they already had and that will mean overcoming new tests that will make them think how strong they are as a family.
Podrán muchos pensar de que este tipo de historias son repetitiva y aburrida, pero no creo que sea así, como dije antes las historias de superación son de mi gusto tal como las que son basadas en hechos reales y justamente está historia es considerada como una “semi-autobiografia” del director y guionista de este film, Lee Isaac Chung, su trabajo es excepcional no solo en la creación de la historia sino en su trabajo como director; primeramente hablare sobre su desempeño como director, creo que no existe ninguna toma que no sea importante, el explorar como cada personaje tiene un punto de vista de cómo viven ese momento de sus vidas es algo muy importante, puede ser desde la inocencia de un niño, de la presión de un padre, de las ganas de ser independiente de la madre o de la poca preocupación de una abuela, siempre busca un momento de como ellos ven el mundo y de como otros personajes los perciben, esto es algo que me gustó mucho, las tomas y la fotografía es impresionante.
La historia es muy buena, tal como lo descrito anteriormente, en este film vemos cómo una familia Surcoreana en los 80' decide dar un paso importante y buscar una independencia que tal vez no sea tan completa como parece y eso hará que existan problemas reales tal como la presión para que un plan pueda funcionar, es una historia en dónde los adultos se llenan justamente de eso, de una presión constante y eso refleja en todo lo que viven como familia, esto le da mucha fuerza a la historia y le da un toque de realidad porque pudiera contar la historia de una familia procedente de cualquier parte del mundo y tendría el mismo mensaje, creo que muchas personas inmigrantes podrán sentirse identificados con esta historia y es por eso que personalmente la veo como una historia universal.
Many may think that this kind of stories are repetitive and boring, but I don't think so, as I said before the stories of overcoming are of my taste such as those that are based on real events and just this story is considered as a "semi-autobiography" of the director and screenwriter Lee Isaac Chung, his work is exceptional not only in the creation of the story but in his work as a director; firstly I will talk about his performance as a director, I think there is no shot that is not important, he explore how each character has a point of view of how they live that moment of their lives is something very important, it can be from the innocence of a child, the pressure of a father, the desire to be independent of the mother or the little concern of a grandmother, always look for a moment of how they see the world and how other characters perceive them, this is something that I really liked, the shots and photography is impressive.
The story is very good, as described previously, in this film we see how a South Korean family in the 80' decides to take an important step and seek an independence that may not be as complete as it seems and that will make there are real problems such as the pressure for a plan to work, it is a story where adults are filled with just that, This gives a lot of strength to the story and gives it a touch of reality because it could tell the story of a family from anywhere in the world and it would have the same message, I think that many immigrants can identify with this story and that is why I personally see it as a universal story.
Las actuaciones son excelentes, Steven Yeun que solo he visto su trabajo en The Walking Dead y en el film Mayhem (me falta por ver Burning) hace una excelente interpretación de "Jacob Yi" un padre de familia con un plan para que su esposa e hijos no deban depender de un empleo ni de un jefe, él hará todo lo posible para este plan salga bien y eso lo llenará de una gran presión; Yeun muestra todo lo antes descrito con sus gestos, su actitud, en momentos se ve como no parece estar feliz, todo es pensar que hacer todo bien sin depender de nadie, sin aceptar la ayuda y eso lo va consumiendo mientras transcurre la historia, de Han Ye-ri con su interpretación de "Mónica Yi" muestra la clara evolución y liberación de la mujer y más en esa época y por su origen, me gustó mucho su historia y lo que refleja, es una fuerte mujer y su evolución es clara; los niños Noel Kate Cho y Alan Kim interpretando a "Anne" y "David Yi" es buena, sé que él personaje de David es mucho más importante que el de su hermana, él es un elemento importante en esta historia, pero no quiero olvidar ni quiero que pase desapercibido de que Anne es tal vez quien encaje mejor en este nuevo lugar y lo hace de forma más rápida que sus padres y de último quiero dejar a mi personaje favorito "Soon-Ja" interpretado por Youn Yuh-jung, para mí es el mejor personaje su interpretación de alguien que a pesar de su edad y de mantener sus costumbres no teme a aprender y querer encajar en un lugar nuevo, esto es perfecto porque es alguien que no cambiará sino aceptará nuevas cosas manteniendo todo lo que nunca olvidará y eso creara diferentes situaciones en esta familia.
The performances are excellent, Steven Yeun who I have only seen his work in The Walking Dead and in the film Mayhem (I have yet to see Burning) makes an excellent interpretation of "Jacob Yi" a family man with a plan so that his wife and children should not depend on a job or a boss, he will do everything possible for this plan to go well and that will fill him with great pressure; Yeun shows everything described before with his gestures, his attitude, in moments you can see how he doesn't seem to be happy, everything is to think that doing everything well without depending on anyone, without accepting help and that is consuming him while the story goes on, of Han Ye-ri with her interpretation of "Monica Yi" shows the clear evolution and liberation of women and more in that time and because of her origin, I really liked her story and what she reflects, she is a strong woman and her evolution is clear; the children Noel Kate Cho and Alan Kim playing "Anne" and "David Yi" is good, I know that David's character is much more important than his sister's, he is an important element in this story, but I don't want to forget nor do I want it to go unnoticed that Anne is maybe who fits better in this new place and she does it faster than her parents and lastly I want to leave my favorite character "Soon-Ja" played by Youn Yuh-jung, for me he is the best character his interpretation of someone who despite his age and keeping his customs is not afraid to learn and want to fit in a new place, this is perfect because he is someone who will not change but accept new things keeping everything he will never forget and that will create different situations in this family.
Disfrute mucho de Minari, disfrute de su forma pausada, con una fotografía hermosa, con excelentes tomas y diálogos, de la inocencia de un niño y el encuentro con su abuela, de una lucha de seguir con las costumbres y aceptar unas nuevas, de que no se enfocara de como otros los ven ni como ellos como familia extranjera ve a los demás, sino de la evolución de ellos en un nuevo lugar y de cómo deben vivir con la presión para que sus planes salgan bien y no fallen, esto es lo que más me gustó porque es real, es una historia que en estos momentos pueden vivir muchas familias que deciden irse de su país de origen a buscar nuevas oportunidades, veo eso reflejado en esas personas que buscan algo nuevo, bueno y que luchan para que otros tengan una vida mejor; recomiendo enormemente este film y así como yo sabrán porque es llamada una de las mejores del 2020.
I really enjoyed Minari, I enjoyed its slow form, with a beautiful photography, with excellent shots and dialogues, the innocence of a child and the encounter with his grandmother, a struggle to continue with the customs and accept new ones, not to focus on how others see them or how they as a foreign family see others, This is what I liked the most because it is real, it is a story that many families who decide to leave their country of origin to look for new opportunities can live, I see that reflected in these people who are looking for something new, good and who fight for others to have a better life; I highly recommend this film and like me you will know why it is called one of the best of 2020.
