I just finished a 22.137km running that lasted about 2hh:18mm:13ss !
I didn't mean to run a Half-Marathon today, it just sorta happened.
Whoops!
I was due to go for a run tomorrow, but with heavy rain and sleet forecast I decided to go for a run today. The plan was a quick 10km out to Harmston and back, and then the sun was shining...
...and I felt comfortable so I did a lap of the village afterwards... and then i thought 'sod it', a quick dash to Waddington and back and boom! 13.1 miles completed in 2 and a bit hours.
Those last few km were increasingly difficult, and the last two I completed on will -power alone. I couldn't actually remember how far a half-marathon was in km (21.1 or 22.1) and I didn't want to risk a mistake so I ran 22.1km to make sure I completed the distance, and it turns out it was actually 21.1km. I'll remember next time (hopefully!)
My legs started to feel tired around the 15km mark, but they didn't feel painful so I kept going. I thought my knees and ankles would start to get sore but it turns out the biggest issue in those last few km was actually my hips. Didn't expect that.
Anyway, the pace was obviously quite slow to complement the distance, the first 10k I averaged 6:00/km and the 2nd 10k I averaged closer to 6:30/km. The time wasn't important, I just wanted to complete the distance. It does mean that the goal I had set to run a Half-Marathon by June this year has been completed much earlier than expected. I guess I'll set a new goal of completing a Full Marathon by the end of this year
Overall, I'm pleased to have competed the distance (I suspected that I would be able to do it) and especially considering I ran 12.8km yesterday, so that is nearly 35km covered in two days.... which is a significant increase to my weekly mileage. Have done some slow static stretching since I finished, and I feel ok at the moment (apart from some creaky knees) but I suspect I'll be feeling it tomorrow!
