I love any kind of celebration, I'm sure most of us do π I love them because it allows me to experiment in the kitchen or try out new food ideas. π©βπ³
So, of course, I love Halloween very much as it is an opportunity to get a little bit crazy with food and let your imagination flow π I found this recipe on the internet and I'm sure I will make them for future Halloweens as well!
Even if you don't celebrate this day, this snack can still be a very nice treat for your children or friends. Or yourself - I know that Halloween food is supposed to be scary but it is so adorable for me π These spiders turned out so cute, so it was very enjoyable to snack on them. π·οΈ
The whole preparation took me about 25 minutes which is very little for such a result! So I highly encourage for you to try this recipe for Halloween or any other day! πΈοΈ
You will need:
for 12 spiders-candies
- 20 g. instant oatmeal
- 150 g. dried dates (you can use fresh dates, but I used dried)
- 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa (additionally: 1-2 teaspoons of cocoa for coating the candies)
- 2 tablespoons of peanut butter (smooth)
- 1 tablespoon of maple syrup
- 16-20 small pretzels
- 24 sunflower seeds
- A pinch of salt
- A pinch of cinnamon
Preparation
- If you are using dried dates, cover them with hot water and leave them to soak for about 10 minutes.
- Once the dates have soaked, drain the water (you can also squeeze the dates a bit to remove excess water). Put dry ingredients in a bowl and mix them (oats, cocoa, nut butter, salt, cinnamon). Do not add the sunflower seeds and pretzels.
Then add the soaked dates, peanut butter and maple syrup.
- Blend all the ingredients together with a hand blender or food processor until almost smooth.
- Form the mixture into balls by taking a full teaspoon of the mixture and rolling it into a ball in your palms.
The whole mixture makes about 12 balls.
- Roll each ball in cocoa until it is fully coated.
- Break the pretzels so that you end up having 3 curved pieces per pretzel.
Put these curved parts into the sides of the balls like legs for spiders. I made four legs for each spider but you can make three if you have more pretzels.
Stick two sunflower eyes in the front of each ball.
And your spiders are ready to be eaten! π
