For my friends today I brought a sweet dish that is unique to our Sri Lanka but very delicious from the art that I love.This sweet food is called 'lavaria'. I used to have this for breakfast. But now I think this is more suitable than a snack. There is a traditional way of making lavaria. It's a little difficult. Let's see today how to make this delicious lavaria easily.
Ingredients;
- One and half cups of string hoppers
flour - Three pods of cardamom
- One and half teaspoons of salt powder
- 90ml of water
- A cup of grated coconut
- Half cup of sugar
- A drop of vanilla
We need a string hopper manual machine to make this lavaria. It can be bought in the market. The image will make it clear to you.
To make it easy for us to make this lavaria in the same size, I made a circle in a polythene sheet.
The method of making;
First of all, crush cardamom pods.
Now put a suitable pan on the stove to caramelize the sugar and add two table spoons of sugar to it and caramelize it first.
When the sugar becomes caramelized, add the rest of the sugar and add 1/4 cup of water to it and dissolve the sugar well on low heat.
Add a drop of vanilla to it.
Then add crushed cardamom and half teaspoon if salt powder and mix well.
Stir this melted sugar mixture for four to five minutes on medium heat, add grated coconut and reduce the heat.
In this way, when you stir this coconut mixture for about six minutes on the lowest flame, its moisture content will decrease. Then remove from heat.
Now let's make the flour mixture, for that add flour to a bowl and add a teaspoon of salt to it.

Mix salt and flour well and add water little by little to make a flour mill of normal consistency.
Now add some of the flour mixture to the string hoppers machine and make string hoppers. It will be very clear to you when you look at the images, how to do it.
On the prepared string hopper, add a part of the coconut nectar mixture made earlier to one side.
Now we need to fold this as shown. For that, from the side without adding sweet coconut, place your hand on the wax leaf and fold the side where the sweet coconut was added.
The thing to do now is to steam the lavaria made. For that, put a banana leaf in the steaming part of the rice cooker and steam the prepared laveria for about eight minutes.
This Laveria is really very fragrant. This is made in a very easy way. Because string hoppers flour can be easily and quickly made and tasted. Laveria is perfect to treat guests to your home or as a snack and to enjoy with family members.
