Making pizza from scratch is an undertaking. But if you outsource the crust, it becomes easy, delicious, and sometimes better than takeout.
🍕 The approach
Got a crust round from the grocery store. Sometimes they come with sauce packets. Otherwise, we have our own homemade red sauce on hand in the freezer.
The bad boy in the picture did get the sauce packet treatment.
- 🍅 Sauce goes down first, used the back of a spoon to spread to the edges.
- 🥓 We crisped up some bacon, chopped it, added it next.
- 🍍 Pineapple chunks next.
- 🌶️ Banana peppers.
- 🧀 Mozzarella, shredded.
- ⏰ 450C oven, bottom rack for 8 minutes. Bottom rack helps with avoiding soggy interior crust.
- 🔥 Broiler on HIGH, middle rack ~4 mins. Middle rack keeps intensity down, letting you get browned cheese on top without needing crazy perfect timing. Probably let this one go one minute too long... but one minute too long on the top rack = disaster. Here, 'twas just a lil extra crispy on the edges.
Let cool for 5, slice 'er up. Optional smoky BBQ sauce on hand.
We ate the remainder for breakfast this morn' 😉
Cheers!
