Hey, it's early night here in Estonia again and the storm is still raging like crazy. I also visited the beach and had a hard time standing up there due to the wind being extreme. If you want you can see my previous updates here Storm Approaching - Update 1, Storm Revving Up - Update 2 and Wind Doing Some Destruction - Update 3.
Things have evolved quite a bit and the strongest part of the storm has been here for hours now. Rescue services have removed about 750 trees from the roads over all of Estonia as of now. Coastal regions have been hit with the strongest winds. 51K households currently are without electricity but not much in the Capital area because most of the power lines are underground. I have seen photos of roofs torn off and a higher building facade torn off. Tram traffic in the capital area is not working due to trees breaking the lines and planes rerouting to other locations because unable to land. There was also an incident where a huge tree fell on a moving car, almost flattening it in the process, fortunately, the driver was unharmed.
The record wind speed of this storm was just recorded not long ago on the Estonian island Osmusaar, 35 m/s wind gust. Here is a map of the wind speed of the past hour.
Around my home one huge pine tree had a top of the tree fell down and a couple of younger trees are downed as well. Here is one of the smaller ones.
When I drove to the beach, I saw the roof of the surf house torn off and flown about 30 meters away. It's a shit picture but here is the roof.
Sea level in the beach was not that high due to wind coming from the northwest but still much higher than usual.
When I tried to drive to the beach, there was a surprise on the road, of course, a fallen tree, I needed to take another road.
Here is a video I put together of the conditions today. Some clips are from the daytime and others are taken in the evening, on a couple of different beaches, you can see how strong the wind is and the wave action, enjoy.
The storm will continue until tomorrow evening and will very slowly weaken until then. This is the last update because the storm will slowly fade out. Hope you liked to follow this event with me during the past 2 days! If a new worthy storm comes around then I might (almost)live blogging it again. Severe storms are not that common here in Estonia but they happen.
