Is it?……..
That’s the question we will look at in a minute.
Today dawned excessively cloudy and warmish. I left for ladies Bible study with just a long sleeve T-shirt and no jacket. As I was driving, the sun was playing peek-a-boo. Sometime later, when I came out from the study, it had developed into a full blown sunny day!
I did some housework indoors as 
We met Jan for a hike and headed to Westergreen’s. I was hoping to find lots of ‘shrooms to photograph!
I found these guys first.
Then as we hiked deeper into the forest we found this:
Is it really a Morel though?
So we hiked onward leaving the two we found for collecting on the way back.
The first pic is one of the views from up there. We continued on and I found a Vanilla Leaf with a Christmas fern entwined with it.
At home, 
We headed back. We got to the area of the Morel mushrooms and picked them. Then we got to looking around and discovered a colossal troop of them! We gathered close to a pound or more! Jackpot-right? Jan has a childhood memory of her mom and dad collecting Morel mushrooms. Then they would flour them and fry them in butter. She was very happy we’d found these. I don’t eat ‘shrooms-I just photograph them!
On the way down, we ran into our neighbor who had just found Morels up at Towhee Ridge over the weekend. Jan showed her what we’d collected. I mentioned Early Morels and she was thinking that these were those.
Once home, we parted and Jan took her treasures with her. I got curious and started searching. I found a YouTube video that showed the 4 types of mushrooms that closely resembles a Morel. After viewing this, I came to the conclusion that they were the Early Morels which can actually make you sick. She also came to the same conclusion. We are going to go back in about 3 weeks as it’s said the Early Morels precede the real ones by about 3 weeks. Happy hunting! 🍄
