I decided it a few days ago. If I ever get bored of playing the piano or run out of students, I might consider becoming something like a food quality controller in restaurants. We have eaten in so many different places recently, and without the intention to generalize, I could draw some differences between countries and their cuisines. Some of the dishes I liked, others not, and also the service in different restaurants/cities/countries was not the same.
The idea about changing my profession into this one came after dinner and the bad attention we received in one restaurant in Narbonne, France. The walk through the old city centre was nice but calm, not many people were around. Neither many restaurants were open. We had to choose from the not very wide offer... and we did a bad choice 😂
We were on the terrace, which was fine. But the tables already offered a bit poor sight, without tablecloths (I understand that this is the site's preference, and not all restaurants use tablecloths to cover the tables). The chef - and the owner at the same time - took our order. We happily waited for Spaghetti Bolognese (son's order), Tagliatelle Carbonara (my choice) and Sicilian Lasagna (husband's order). If you see, all Italian dishes, as it was supposed that the chef was Italian although we were in France and we didn't have a lot of choices. Anyway, Italian cuisine has never let us down... until now?
The food arrived! Happy moments!
My husband took a photo of the lasagna he ordered, after already eating a bite of it 😁
My son also got the spaghetti... but I got a dish that I didn't order 😆
It was pizza Corleone!?! I kindly informed them that it wasn't my order so they apologized and promised that my Tagliatelle carbonara will arrive soon.
...
{here would come a musical interlude while waiting with me for my dinner... oh, but we are not in a music corner, so just let's continue with the food topic}
Soon. It arrived too soon, as they were in a hurry to correct the mistake so the noodles stayed uncooked. It was not tasty at all to eat raw noodles. I didn't eat it. Well, maybe I could let it go but in those moments my son found a piece of aluminium foil in his dish! 🤐
Neither he finished his dinner.
When the owner came to collect the plates we asked for the bill and said these things, raw noodles and a piece of aluminium foil in the food... He didn't like our comment and even was a bit rude! On top of that, he ignored us and didn't bring us the bill. We asked for it from the waitress, paid and left.
Maybe he thought I was a spy, or a controller and came to find the defects of his business. 😂 The idea of this future profession of mine came while we were joking and trying to forget this experience! After all, we had a nice time in Narbonne and of course, we didn't allow this incident to spoil the evening.
If I think better, I am not sure if this profession would be a good one and well paid to cover the fees of detoxication. Just imagine, there is a risk I could get food poisoning in some places trying out food. This is a highly dangerous profession... I will stay with the piano 😅
note 1. This post's intention was not a rant, but a bit of fun about changing my profession.
note 2. We didn't get food poisoning after that dinner, so all finished well.
note 3. On this occasion, I didn't leave a tip for the waitress because we were not satisfied with the service and food. But here come my questions...
-Do you usually leave an additional tip to the waiter or waitress when you eat out?
-Is it a tradition in your country?
-Would you ever change your profession and become a food quality controller? 😁
