Hello Hive, long time no see!
I thought now was a good time as ever to start up posting again, so I’ve recorded our awesome activity with the kids, learning all sorts of baking skills.
Today we made our very first Gingerbread house from scratch!
We made gingerbread people last week to practice the mix and today the final thing was made. I’m not sure who enjoyed making it more, me or the kids!
I think this might be our new Christmas Eve tradition. I’m getting way more interested in creating traditions for my family. Positive and creative traditions.
So here is part of our process (I didn’t take many photos myself as my hands were mostly covered in flour!)… thanks for taking them :)
So while I melted and mixed the butter, sugar, and golden syrup on the hob (this is not a healthy recipe!) the kids made sure our table was covered in flour! This kept them busy and made sure flour got over the floor too. No one said baking with kids was mess free. Next lesson: using the vacuum cleaner
This is what my four year old was doing, after making several gingerbread people, snow people, and trees.
I’m not 100% sure what she was doing but she said something about these being decorations and/ or stockings.
Then she rolled them all up! She was focused and spent a long time on it. This meant a lot to her.
Don’t they look good?!
House pieces cooling! It’s crazy how soft they still are when you take them out of the oven but, by the time they are cool, they are solid!
The nerve-wracking assembly! Hoping that the icing I made would be thick enough to glue it all together!
We averted disaster and it got decorated!!
Lots of biscuits for our new biscuit tin!
So pleased with how it turned out!! Guess what number our new house is?!
Merry Christmas everyone!
Let me know if you’ve been baking with the kids lately!
