The elevator seemed to be a slight upgrade from one you might find in a mining shaft. It had a panel with a couple of buttons on it. The floor itself was at least a solid piece of metal so you did not have to see the cave as you descend.
The top and sides of the elevator were wire mesh exposing the tunnel rock face. You pushed on the walls themselves and they were at least stiff enough that they did not bend any. Being able to see the side walls of the cave while you moved around in an elevator seemed like it would raise your anxiety somewhat.
At the very least this elevator was not hand cranked to operate it. The lighting on the panels and the single lightbulb in it were flicking on occasion, however. Making you somewhat question how wise it was to use this in the first place.
You could see while looking up the single metal cable that was connecting the mining elevator to the top. There also seemed to be support beams every so often reinforcing the side cave walls. With ladders that you use if the elevator gets stuck and you have to go through the top escape hatch to access them.
Just to feel a bit more confident about the entire thing. You did some jumping up and down. It seemed more than stable enough to hold your weight.
You took a closer look at the button panel itself. You could select B , Floor 1, Floor 2, and Floor 3.
