Today my mother made a snack for everyone. We called it Turon (Banana Lumpia/Lumpiang Saging)
What is Turon?
Turon is known to be a native Filipino snacks. It is made of thinly slice banana (saba) wrapped in a, spring roll wrapper and dusted with brown sugar. Deeply fry that's why it is crispy and sweet inside and out. You can freely make it at home or buy it on side street vendors. It is a part of everyday snacks and on the go food carts.
So today let me share how to do it as simple as you knew it. You will just need the following ingredients:
Lumpia Wrappers
Saging na Saba
Brown Sugar
Cooking oil for frying
Here's how:
1.Slice banana into desire thickness. We divide one banana into four equal parts. Set aside.
2.Unwrapped individually your lumpia wrapper. Cut in half if desired and cover it with a plastic to prevent it from drying to retain it's softness.
3.Assemble your things needed and proceed on wrapping bananas. Get one lumpia wrapper and put one slice of banana at the center of it.
4.Fold it on both sides and roll it till you reach the top. Simply damp ample amount of water to secure the edges of it.
5.Put generous amount of cooking oil into your frying pan. Slightly fry it but do not wait to turn it golden brown.
6.After you fry all the lumpia, put additional cooking oil in frying pan then put some sugar into it.
7.Once the sugar is melted, you can now re-fry your lumpia and slide it on melted sugar for both sides.
Repeat the process until finish. Serve it while still hot to ensure it's crispness. You can add some jackfruits or langka to add some twist and make it more special. We named our Turon "Baby Turon" cause it quite smaller than the common size of Turon in the market. We made this tiny version to avoid excess cooking oil trapped in lumpia wrappers.
Here is our simple Baby Banana Lumpia or Baby Turon. The kids live it! Hope you'll like it and try it also. Thanks for dropping by and have a good day:)
