For a few months now, I’ve need new house shoes. It’s the rules; outdoor shoes for the outdoors, indoors stay home. The tops I rock come from an ear when recess had a bell. In fact, they number my bottoms ten to one, like a soccer team. One pair of jeans plays goalie to everything topside. My dress shirts, influenced by mother, do not fit an iota close to my size. Given a high enough attitude, I could glide with the mechanisms of the ‘flying’ squirrel.
Flying squirrels don’t fly. They glide. A specials membrane between their front and back legs allows them an angled descent. That’s good, since my wardrobe didn’t fly, either.
Broken things seem to be very 'in' right now.
Investment Advice:
- Buy your color palette. If you don’t have a favorite color, and I dno’t mean every single color you like, I mean the main one, pick one. Own it. Let it be your guiding star. Fashion feels so much more personal, more expressive- more fashionable, if at least one thing you love.
- Try it on. You know what’s hot? Fitted threads. No excess butt crack, no constant shirt-tugs. What’s not? Buyer’s remorse.
A pair of Carhartt jeans: $49.99. Ugg house shoes: on sale, $60. Keeping what you buy cuz you know your size? Priceless. I’d rather try then buy all my life and stay loyal to one brand, than 10 logos driving me loco. The most recent pant I purchased proves I might want a wider waist for pocket room and longer length to rise above highwaters- the funny look of pants stopping too short. Capris only oughta be juice pouches.

Now, I'm managing manga and spending much better.
Why are we greedy like wolves? I’m uncertain. In The Science of Getting Rich, Wallace D Wattles argues more isn’t malicious. Neither is rich, wrong.
“The purpose of nature is the advancement and unfoldment of life; and every man should have all that can contribute to the power; elegance, beauty and richness of life; to be content with less is sinful.”
Bold a claim to call contentedness sinful, but I am of similar mind. To limit one’s own capability needlessly, hurts more than it helps. Some might praise your discretion but consider who appreciates falsehoods. Do as much as you can, not as much as is widely acceptable…
When there's nothing you can do, you do what you can. Even friends can help, sometimes.
And as such, I did everything I could for this local brand. I shot two look-books now, with little in the way of compensation. The 2nd time around, I got a snapback and meal from Chipotle. I accepted much too little for my contribution, so when I see the brand and logo, I am conflicted. Even support can become a process, since the goal of helping was met, but didn’t help me much. My first look-book, despite having vision and receiving guidance, earned no pay. I was told the work wasn’t as desired, but still I watched as the materials populated the social media page. My fashion industry faux pas is a gross lack of self-advocacy. Don’t settle. No jeans are worth the lack thereof. Content with conning yourself is the gravest error.
Post Summary
- Keeping a clean wardrobe is an art, not science. Fashion you decide with feelings about form and function.
- A desire to do more is different from one to have more.
- Self-advocacy pays you since you maintain your identity. Behaviors soon follow.
