Our knowledge is accelerating
In the dark ages, yeah, 10 years ago, high cholesterol was thought to increase the odds of heart disease and heart attack. Many still believe this myth, LDL actually has nothing to do with these issues we used to think it caused, nor does it have any negative effects on our bodies.
Most current killer diseases are caused by inflammation
The latest evidence points to the primary cause of heart disease being insulin/carb metabolization causing inflamation of arteries. Alzheimers, too! The amount of saturated fat and cholesterol we consume has nothing to do with that. I list more of these diseases at the bottom of this article.
Do not trust gov-backed research
Big pharma has government agencies in their pocket. They ran with the carbs-are-good and fat-is-bad myth and made (and still are making) billions off this! See statin drugs like Lipitor, etc. They are banking on this while destroying peoples' health!
Fat consumption is healthy
Does that sound crazy? If you grew up like I did, receiving all the anti-fat-consumption propaganda your entire life, yeah, this probably sounds crazy. All the new research shows consumption of fat & cholesterol is actually healthy and necessary for cell and neuron growth. All cell membranes are made of cholesterol.
Retune your metabolism; hybridize!
People who study and utilize the growing keto movement are retuning their bodies to a lost - but more natural and sustainable - method for producing energy; processing fat! This doesn't remove our ability to process carbs. It's like adding an electric motor to your car but keeping the gasoline one. Hybridizing your metabolism! And it isn't difficult to do!
How/why is it "easy" compared to other diets?
Primarily, reduced carb intake combined with high fat intake, as long as you are getting vital minerals, stimulates satiation so there are less feelings of hunger!
What will it most likely cure?
First by "it", I mean a low carb diet combined with starting out by just removing one meal a day. They call this "intermittent fasting". It's not as scary or as hard for some people as full on fasting is. Searching for the term "Keto" will bring up a wealth of information.
For me, so far, here are some of my benchmarks:
Baseline
- Type 2 Diabetes.
- Eating lowish-med carb diet.
- Consuming 10mg glyburide & 2000mg metformin/day.
- Excessively dry skin.
- Numb toes.
- Random tingles / pinprick pains.
- Muscle pain.
- Chronic debilitating joint pain.
- Pain meds required to sleep.
- Developing cataracts.
Day 4 into Keto
- Eating less than 20g carbs/day.
- Consuming 5mg glyburide & 1000mg metformin/day.
- Dry skin completely gone!
- Muscle pain gone.
- ALL joint pain gone!
- Sleeping without pain/sleep meds!
- Consistently high energy.
Day 10 into Keto
Learned a few things. If I exercise less than ~30-45 min total a day, I don't make progress in terms of lowering my blood sugar and reducing my meds. At one point I skipped exercise completely for 3 days and watched my blood sugar rise to the point where i had to get back on my full 10mg glyburide + 2000mg metformin/day to drop my blood sugar back to normal. It didn't spike as much as it had before on my pre-keto carb intake but it still was too high for good health. Since I'm testing my blood 3-5 times a day during this period, I'm realizing how huge an impact even just a 20 minute leisurely walk has on blood/glucose levels!
Day 16 into Keto (now)
All the same effects I saw on Day 4 plus noticing:
- Clearer sharper thinking.
- Even more energy!
- Joy and motivation. Throughout the day and into the eve having a more positive attitude that borders on feeling almost manic.
- Some feelings in the body that I can only describe as "odd". Not unpleasant or jittery. I wonder if this is how it feels for the body to be switching over to processing fats more than carbs?
Some other effects I hope to see
- Reduction of flabby skin.
- Eye health.
- Eventual complete eradication of my insulin resistance, along with need for any diabetes meds.
- Extended healthy lifespan.
So. I got off track. The original question was: What can this diet most likely cure? Here are the biggies:
- Diabetes type 2.
- Cancer!
- Heart disease.
- Alzheimers.
- Parkinsons.
- Crohns (a friend put hers into remission with very similar diet).
And pretty much any disease caused by inflammation and wow people a lot smarter than I am are finding more of them at a rapid pace! It makes sense, when you think about how carb-heavy modern eating has become.
