My wife and oldest daughter are obssesed by Cupcake Jemma, a YouTube cupcake and cake maker who has a fairly well followed channel. She used to be a graphic designed who did baking for Sunday markets as her passion, and was discovered by Jamie Oliver (at least, this is what my wife tells me... I may be adding to the internet trove of misinformation!).
There is a single shopfront in the SoHo district of London, and during our recent trip to London, this was one of the high priority things to do... in fact, you could almost say that it was one of the main reasons that we ended up in London!

The Space
The Crumbs and Doilies shopfront is a really small shop in a narrow alley in the SoHo district of London. As you can see from the angle of my shot... the alleyway is REALLY narrow!
It is likely a place that you won't accidentally stumble over unless you happen to walk down this path... it is just off the main road, but there is no real indication that this Cupcake sensation is nearby! Even following map directions and with determined purpose, we still had a bit of trouble finding it!
The interior is really quite cramped... there is space for about 10 people seated on high chairs at most... and there is a bench outside (where we ate our cupcakes...). There is also a little park nearby, but don't expect to sit down and chow down on delicious cupcakes easily!

The Menu
They appear to have different sorts of flavours each day, so there isn't really a set menu. All the cupcakes have the same price and there is the choice of a regular sized cupcake or a smaller one. The question is do you want to maximise the icing to cupcake ratio or would you prefer something more balanced?
There is also tea and coffee for those who are interested. A seating charge applies for those who choose to eat in.

The Food
The flavours of cupcake were quite varied... althought the daily selection was limited to about 10 flavours, they were all really quite interesting and I really did want to try them all... perhaps we should have gone for more little ones rather than a single regular sized cupcake for each of us.
My wife had a Rose and Pistaccio flavour, whilst I went for the tried and true Salty Caramel. Most of the flavour and taste of cupcakes is in the cream icing.... and here it was no different, the flavours were eye poppingly rich... and the base of the cupcake was buttery and smooth.
This was cupcake heaven!
My oldest daughter got an After Eight flavour... a minty chocolate delight that really did replicate the taste of that famous chocolate. One does have to admire the presentation in each cupcake... it is something that do notice in each of Cupcake Jemma's videos... the cakes all look really great!
Our youngest daughter had fallen asleep on the walk to the shop... but she would have been really disappointed if she found out that we all had cupcakes and that she had missed out. So, we did save her one... a Cookies and Cream flavour... let me tell you, it was a real trial of will to not just "taste" it before she woke up!

The Experience
Wow... there are cupcakes and then there are CUPCAKES! These are some of the best cupcakes that I've ever tasted... the base was amazingly good, but the flavours were the knockout punch! Plus, the presentation of the little things were amazing...
The staff were friendly, and the shopfront is nice and cosy... but there is nowhere to rest your weary feet. Still, if you are in the neighbourhood, I would definitely recommend that you drop by and indulge your inner child with your adult money and get your something nice and tasty!
... just skip the coffee... London has terrible coffee everywhere!
