This is the second of a series of post on races I did In France, Switzerland and Canada.
I will share with you the results but the most important what I thought about the race and if I recommend it.
Race description
Seek the peak is a 15 kilometers race with 1400 meters of elevation gain taking place in North Vancouver British Colombia.
The scenery of the race is amazing: starting from sea level in Ambelside park, West Vancouver, the runners run up to the Top of Grouse mountain to finish at the heart of the ski resort. The first part is hilly, following the capilano river in the middle of the rain forest. Then the hard part: 850 meters of elevation gain in 1.8 kilometers on the world famous "grouse grind" to get to the resort. The last part goes up and down to the top of the ski lifts of Grouse Mountain.
My post from the 2016 race
Seek the Peak 2016: victory and course record!

After having ran the race in 2013 (finishing 7th, 1st young 11-19), I came back to Canada to run it faster with no other expectations. I was not even feeling ready for the race day but had to go for it, no matter what! The temperature was cool, about 16 degrees at the start and cloudy, perfect to run fast! I spoke a little with the course record holder Benoit Gignac. Then I already knee I would have to run very fast to keep up. Then I heard the bang of the start. We ran at a 21 kmh speed for the first straight line, and then 19 kmh to join the capilano trail. A bit fast but I felt very good. We were already only 4 runners ahead, with Benoit, Marcus Ribi and another runner. I paced myself down in the capilano uphill as I don't like small hills percentages. I just tried to keep up until the beginning of the grouse grind which I did and give everything in the steep climb. Everything happened as planned as I got in first place at the resort, followed by the young talent Kieran Lumb. Then I just tried to keep at least 200 meters on him until the top and made it roll down to the finish line.
I was very surprised of my time of 1:22:01, setting a new course record!
Recommend or not?
Yes I do strongly recommend this race especially if you are visiting. The whole heart of Vancouver is there: Capilano canyon, the rain forest, Grouse Mountain and the grouse grind!
And as over 500 runners are participating each year, there is a space for every level so don't fear being last, you will always find someone to run with!
