Welcome back to the #whatscookingchallenge by . I got tagged by
recently for this challenge and I gladly accept. However, my experiments have been failing so much recently. So, welcome to the episode of my comeback, which also actually failed, because it was meant to be a chocolate mousse cake, but became a chocolate custard, LOL! Anyway, this has been my laughing week, so I have decided to take everything lightly. My mum-in-law saved the day by suggesting to turn my failed experiment into the chocolate custard she occasionally makes.
Okay, the ingredients for this Chocolate Custard were improvised as follows:
1 L fresh milk
60g cocoa powder
50ml heavy cream
50g starch
120g castor sugar
4 eggs
300g chocolate chips
With the above, I was able to make 5 bowls of custard.
Methods:
- Whisk the fresh milk, heavy cream, starch, castor sugar and eggs together.
- Sieve the mixture. Put into a double boil, melt the chocolate chips into the mixture.
- Sieve the mixture again.
- Pour the mixture in the 5 respective bowls.
- Steam with low fire for 10-15 minutes each.
- Use the fork to poke to see if it's cooked.
- Chill for 2 hours to enjoy the chocolate custard cold.
- Sieve some cocoa powder if you prefer.
The rectified outcome was unexpectedly smooth and delicious. I gave some to my student I tutored today and she said it is nice. Woo-hoo! So much for a comeback after failing what I intended to make, LOL.

Mandatory selfie with the food as requested by , but this was taken before I realize it needs some garnish which I added strawberries after that.
How the custard's texture looks like on the inside
loves sipping her wine while cooking. I took a yakult drink today while waiting for the steaming to be done.
Not too beautiful, but tastes not bad
All thanks to the mum-in-law who is a genius to think how to salvage what I have made last night because my supposedly mousse cake remained as a thickened liquid mixture. I am sure glad it didn't go to waste and can be turned into something else. If you would have noticed there were two lighting tones, that is because one was taken last night and the others in the day today while I was trying to salvage it, Hehe.
And the husband's verdict is it is very moussey!!! So, I actually made a mousse cake still in the end??? Lucky me, yahooooooo!!!!
If you have not checked out 's foodie challenge, you have to! Here's her revised rules for the challenge:
1: Use the #whatscookingchallenge tag and tag me
in your post.
2: Create and publish a post showcasing something that you have prepared in your kitchen which is either a) uniquely yours, or b) has been adapted and made your own. (The more elaborate the post the better, naturally...)
PS. This is NOT limited to "plates of food" - it can be preserves, snacks, baking anything!
3: NB! Accompany the post with at least 2 photos of whatever it is that you have prepared as well as a photo of you WITH your dish! Guys this is COMPULSORY - posts without the selfie... won't be considered
