ok so I know some rich people...and they are into wine, so that sometimes works out as a bonus for me. This one time, this rich person, who has some rich person connections, brought home the MOTHER OF ALL REDS. An Opus One, and FROM 1992 NO LESS!!!!
In 1992 the blend is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Merlot. The drinking window for this wine is allegedly 2015-2022, so I was lucky enough to a) find someone who has held onto it long enough to not drink it, (how could this person walk past this fabulous wine in his cellar for 25 years and have the willpower not to drink it, I have no idea) and b) be adjacent to a person willing to spend the $500 or so for this finely aged wine.
Here is the lineup of our fabulous drinking party. All 4 are reds from Napa, each fine in its own right. But the star of the show is clearly last (we drank left to right in the above picture), and what a wine. I tell you. Ive never before had anything like this. I cant even describe it to give it justice, but it was kind of like the taste of a well work saddle, on a dusty road, but in a very good way (I'm really selling it I know). You know from first sip, you can drink this all night, and you dont want to switch with anything else. Thats why its last of course.
As if we havent lived life to the fullest yet with the wine, my wife broke out a Dobos (Hungarian 8 layered chocolate cake with burned sugar top) to enjoy with the meal. boom. Gluttony overload! Tomorrow back to playing hockey, to burn this off.
