Soneto 23

No dudo que el amor sea cuestionable. ¡Prudente es poner la pasión en duda! Y aunque resulte una decisión cruda, el fruto de esto es, sin duda, loable. No puede existir desengaño amable, y es el desamor experiencia ruda. Más vale a tiempo una verdad desnuda, que vivir un engaño interminable. Preciso es, entonces, decir verdad. Así, con esta afirmación concluyo en aras de la pura claridad: Que en nombre de mi corazón arguyo que este, mi amor de inmensa vastedad, en toda su extensión, es solo tuyo.

I do not doubt that love is questionable. Prudent it is to cast passion in doubt! And though it may result in a harsh decision, the fruit of this is undoubtedly commendable. There can be no kind disillusionment, and it is a rough experience to fall out of love. Better a naked truth in due time, than to live an endless deceit. It is therefore necessary to speak the truth. Thus, with this affirmation, I conclude in the pursuit of pure clarity: That in the name of my heart I argue that this, my love of immense vastness, in all its extent, belongs only to you.
