Hello Hivians!

Now that I'm halfway familiar with infrared photography, I wanted to try something new. My original idea was to incorporate infrared photography into a light painting. Some examples have already been provided by @lichtkunstfoto. As I had gained some experience with light painting in daylight, it seemed obvious to follow the same path for infrared photography. So I started to plan a camera rotation with the camera converted to an undefined light spectrum.

Nachdem ich mich halbwegs in die Infrarot-Fotografie eingearbeitet habe, wollte ich mal was neues ausprobieren. Meine ursprüngliche Idee war es, die Infrarot-Fotografie in ein Lightpainting einzubinden. Einige Beispiele lieferte @lichtkunstfoto bereits. Da ich einige Erfahrung mit Lightpainting bei Tageslicht gesammelt hatte, lag es nahe, diesen Weg auch für die Infrarot-Fotografie einzuschlagen. Also begann ich eine Kamerarotarion mit der, auf ein undefiniertes Lichtspektrum umgebauten, Kamera zu planen.

After some quick research, I found a nice location for a light painting near where we currently live. Geane and I ordered an UBER and made our way to Pedreira do Dib.

Nach kurzer Recherche fand ich eine schöne Location für ein Lightpainting in der Nähe unseres derzeitigen Wohnorts. Geane und ich bestellten ein UBER und machten uns auf den Weg zum Pedreira do Dib.

Pedreira do Dib is a quarry in Mairiporã (SP-Brazil) from the 1960s. It is up to 100m deep. Today it is used for leisure activities such as climbing, hiking, ropes courses, etc. It is also often used as a film and photo backdrop. Reason enough to take a closer look at the place. Originally, I wanted to paint with light there. Unfortunately, there was a new moon that day. That made it a bit difficult to light the quarry. That's why I opted for infrared photography.

Pedreira do Dib ist ein Steinbruch in Mairiporã (SP-Brazil) aus den 1960er Jahren. Er ist bis zu 100m tief. Heute wird er für Freizeitaktivitäten wie Klettern, Wandern, Seillaufen usw. genutzt. Außerdem dient er des öfteren als Film und Fotokulisse. Grund genug sich den Ort mal näher anzuschauen. Ursprünglich wollte ich dort mit Licht malen. Leider hatten wir an diesem Tag Neumond. Da wird es mit der Beleuchtung des Steinbruchs etwas schwierig. Deshalb habe ich mich für die Infrarot-Fotografie entschieden.

First I photographed the quarry with different filters. A 720nm filter was used for the B/W photos. For the images with infrared false colors, I used a 550nm filter.

Zuerst lichtete ich den Steinbruch mit verschiedenen Filtern ab. Für die S/W - Fotos kam ein Filter 720nm zum Einsatz. Für die Bilder mit Infrarot-Falschfarben setzte ich einen Filter mit 550nm ein.

You shouldn't leave your equipment standing around alone in the countryside. Thieves could decimate it. A rabbit offered to guard my tripod while I had a look around. In general, I found perfect working conditions at the quarry. Plenty of wooden seats and tables were available for use along the path.

Man sollte sein Equipment nicht allein in der Landschaft rumstehen lassen. Langfinger könnten es dezimieren. Für Sicherheit sorgte hier ein Kaninchen, welches sich anbot, mein Stativ zu bewachen, während ich mich vor Ort etwas umschaute. Überhaupt fand ich dort am Steinbruch perfekte Arbeitsbedingungen vor. Aus Holz zusammengezimmerte Sitzgelegenheiten und Tische standen dort in reichlicher Anzahl am Wegesrand zur Nutzung bereit.

Finally, I tried to achieve a camera rotation in the infrared range. For the rotation, I proceeded in a similar way to what I had already tried. I had already described the procedure for camera rotation in daylight here: [Light Painting, Reflection Or Camera Rotation?](https://ecency.com/hive-194913/@candelart/light-painting-reflection-or-camera?referral=candelart) During the camera rotation, I used an FX PRO Hard GND8, a Reverse GND8, an ND1000 and a polarization filter in addition to the 550nm infrared filter. First I started with a 180° rotation. You can see the result above as the cover picture.

Schließlich versuchte ich eine Kamerarotation im Infrarotbereich hinzubekommen. Bei der Rotation ging ich ähnlich vor, wie bereits erprobt. Zuerst begann ich mit einer 180°-Rotation. Das Ergebnis siehst du oben als Titelbild.

Then I went one better and had the camera rotate around the optical axis in 60° increments. That completed my mission for the day. So infrared photography and light painting are not mutually exclusive and are an exciting topic that I will continue to pursue.

Danach setzte ich noch eins drauf und ließ die Kamera in 60°-Schritten um die optische Achse rotieren. Damit war meine Mission für diesen Tag erfüllt. Infrarotfotografie und Lightpainting schließen sich also nicht aus und sind ein spannendes Thema, welches ich weiter verfolgen werde.

What Is Light Painting?

Light painting is a unique art form. As a rule, the darkness is illuminated by the artist with various light sources and traces of light are painted into the picture with various lighting tools. Various techniques are used, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. When using ND filters, this technique can also be used in daylight. All images were taken during a single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cropping and possibly adjusting the white balance, the images are not processed on the computer.

Lichtmalerei ist eine einzigartige Kunstform. In der Regel wird die Dunkelheit mit diversen Lichtquellen vom Künstler ausgeleuchtet und Lichtspuren mit diversen Lichtwerkzeugen ins Bild gemalt. Dabei kommen verschiedene Techniken zum Einsatz, wie Kamerarotation oder andere Bewegungen der Kamera während der Belichtung. Die kreativen Möglichkeiten sind nahezu unbegrenzt. Bei Einsatz von ND-Filtern kann diese Technik auch bei Tageslicht angewand werden. Alle Bilder wurden während einer einzigen Belichtung aufgenommen. Abgesehen vom Entrauschen, Schärfen, Beschneiden und eventuellem Anpassen des Weißabgleichs werden die Bilder nicht am Computer bearbeitet.
