Hey everybody!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
I got up this morning to prep and cook what we always called ‘dressing’ (also known as stuffing) for the Thanksgiving meal at our son Michael and his wife, Christine’s house today. Traditionally this is done (in my family anyway) by breaking up bread into a mixing bowl. You then add chicken or turkey broth to the bowl along with rubbed sage, salt, pepper, onions and garlic. You mix it all up until the bread absorbs the broth and it has a soggy bread, sort of like lumpy cake batter consistency. Once you’ve mixed up enough to fill the pan your greased with Crisco, you dump this mixture into the pan. I cook it on 375 degrees for about 15 minutes and then reduce the heat to 350 for another 30-40 minutes. You want the top to be slightly brown with a light crust like feel to it.
After that was done, we loaded the car up with the salad, dressing and pumpkin bread muffins I had baked and headed over.
The turkey.......
The spread.......
It was a lovely and filling meal, but of course afterwards, you gotta get up and out to walk it off! So, we headed up their road and turned onto the next one and walked further than Christine and Michael had walked on that road. It was kind of cold and a bit blustery as the wind was still trying to kick up it’s heels. I unfortunately was not really dressed for the weather, so I was a bit cold, but the hike helped us all to digest the dinner. We walked past Carl’s Christmas Tree Farm, where they are headed tomorrow to hunt for the perfect tree.
The view of Mt. Baker from the hike on the way back.
It was an awesome day spent with family and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Thanks for stopping by! Don’t forget to keep on steppin’! Any exercise is good for you, so keep at it. Have a wonderful day wherever you are!
