Growing up I was always told it was a secret family recipe
When I was given it I was told I wasn't allow to share it. But low and behold I love to cook and bake. One day decided to google them and found the recipe online. I was kind of bummed out that it wasn't really a secret family recipe. But I am also glad because now my mom can't get mad for me sharing it here with my readers.
This is a two layer brownie
It is really rich and there is a lot of sugar in it, so if you are diabetic I would suggest making sure you check your sugar before and after eating one of these and only eating a small piece. And even if you are not diabetic they are really rich so it is better to start of with a smaller piece.
Here are the ingredients you will need to make this recipe
Bottom half
1 box Betty Crocker butter pecan cake mix
1 stick butter, melted
1 egg
Mix together cake mix, melted butter and 1 egg. Spoon and press into bottom of 9x13-inch baking pan
Top half
1 box powdered sugar (regular size) or 3 1/2 cups
1 (8 oz.) pkg. softened cream cheese
2 eggs
Pecans (optional)
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
Blend together powdered sugar, cream cheese, & 2 eggs. Pour mixture over cake mix and spread. Sprinkle chopped pecans over top.
Place in oven and bake for 35-40 minutes. They won't look done but they are, as the top has to cool and set before firming up. Let them completely cool for at least 1 hour before cutting.
This are one of our family favorites. When I was all grown up I gave this recipe a twist and started trying out different cake mixes instead of Butter Pecan. And this recipe works really well with chocolate, lemon and orange flavored cake mixes. We rarely ever add Pecans to the top of it, but apparently many do online. Growing up my mom never did, but as an adult I have a few times.
