It is another fabulous day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!
We made a delicious feast for our full time volunteers today on our indoor wood burning stove rather than on the rocket stoves of our sustainable outdoor kitchen. We stayed nice and toasty, had a fantastic meal, AND heated water for showers for super sustainable efficiency. As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you!
Today we made an amazing feast with pan fried tilapia with an orange ginger relish, garden salad, mashed potatoes, and sautéed greens!
We started our feast with a raw salad with greens, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, sliced almonds, and garden chives. Our daily salads are a delicious serving of bright, healthful phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals!
We pan fried lightly breaded tilapia filets for our main course, and we topped them with a flavorful relish made from orange juice, orange peel, grated ginger, onions, and sweet bell peppers.
We cooked the tilapia and side dishes over our indoor wood burning stove. First, we soaked them in orange juice for a fresh, sunny flavor, then we dipped them in an egg wash, and finally a flour and panko bread crumb coating before frying them in a bit of olive oil. We will share a formula for this main dish in an upcoming post!
For a side, we sautéed greens with onions and mushrooms. We usually serve our greens raw in salads, but it's a nice change of pace to have a cooked version sometimes.
For our final side, we made a big pot of mashed potatoes! This is one of our favorite dishes. They are creamy, hearty, super comforting, and very easy to make! We made these with boiled potatoes, cream, butter, salt, and pepper.
What a beautiful meal! We had plenty of high vibe, sustainable food for everyone and shared the meal in grateful company.
Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!
We do all of our cooking over fire, using wood that was otherwise destined to end up in a landfill! This is our indoor wood burning stove in action - it cooks our food, warms our communal space, and heats water for hot showers all at the same time!
Food is an honored & elemental part of our daily life in community. You can learn more about our unique, intimate, and super sustainable relationship with food here!
