There are many Viking themed restaurants in Finland and we visited one of those yesterday. I´m pretty sure that everyone knows what a Viking is, but if you don`t: Vikings were Northern Europe´s “pirates” back in the days (about 8th-11th centuries). I have heard that their diet was basically a lot of meat and beer which is my favourite combo as well.
We ate dark bread dipped in butter as a starter. For main course, we had beef tenderloin topped with parmesan and bread, served with Iberian ham, tar-flavoured pepper sauce, Viking shield potatoes and roasted root vegetables. The portion was big and tasty, but we still decided to take some dessert too (my wife says that there is always room for dessert). I let my wife choose the dessert and of course she ended up ordering the biggest dessert on the menu. It included three different kind of ice-creams (blueberry, tar, raspberry-salty liquorice), chocolate cake, crispy pancakes, cranberry and white chocolate terrine, cheese from Maakerkelä, buckthorn syrup, liquorice mousse, marinated cloudberries and strawberry jam. I accepted the challenge but it was way too much for two of us. All in all, food was really delicious and atmosphere and service were both fantastic. Can highly recommend the restaurant Harald!
