Aaaaaaaaaaaand let me tell you, it was mighty epic. It was nothing less than a monstrous concoction of calorically-dense deliciousness, truly a sandwich to end all sandwiches. It was...a shooter sandwich.
The shooter sandwich originated in England during the early 1900s and was used as a portable meal for hunters and travelers. As of recently, there's been a resurgence in its popularity thanks to the interwebs. On one occasion, during the former half of last year, I found myself in a particularly dire state of famishment while surfing said interwebs. And that's when I first came across this culinary marvel. My eyes lit up as I salivated madly. It had to be mine, and mine is what I made it. I also documented the process, perhaps hoping my photos of the event would prove useful on a latter occasion.
If you've ever made a shooter sandwich, then I'm sure you know what a costly endeavor it proves to be. This is due to the myriad of ingredients used in its assembly. It must've cost me well over 30 dollars to collect all the items needed.
This sandwich began as all sandwiches do-with one humble piece of leavened loaf.
This humble piece of leavened loaf is then hewn into two halves, which subject to the skill of the blade wielder, may or may not be of equal size.
The entrails are removed. This is proper taxidermy procedure.
Our beast is stuffed with...more beast. The first pass of stuffing is sliced swine deli.
Cheese, perhaps provolone or mozzarella, my memory fails me.
Pickled harvests from the earth.
Another blanket of mystery cheese, topped with cooked ravioli.
Some fungi, sauteed with barbeque sauce, salt and pepper. Below it lay some more cheese, this time of the cottage variety.
Glorious bacon.
Exactly 23 french fries.
One final comforter to tuck in all the ingredients.
The beast is shut,
...tucked,
...and wrapped,
It is then laid as a foundation.
Upon this foundation is erected a tower, starting with the first story,
the second,
and finally, the third.
Let four hours pass before freeing the sandwich.
And WOAH WOAH WOAH, check this out maaaaaaaaaaaan. This is AWESOME!!!
