It's been over three weeks since I last had a donut. Three weeks!!! That's unheard of for me. I was pleased to see Krispy Kreme had brought the Lemon Meringue donut back, but it's not the Lemon Meringue as I know it. This was going to be an interesting eat.

The donut had a thick layer of lemon icing and there was a lot of crunchy lemon and meringue pieces. Almost too much!! The inside of the donut had a lovely zesty curd and the marshmallow filling was more like Krispy Kreme's kreme filling. They were both very nice and I loved the freshness of this fruity donut. The thing is there was far too much on top of the donut. The crunchy pieces and the meringue pieces and the icing made it very very sweet. Even for me this was too sweet! Although it was a nice lemon donut, this would have been so much better without the crunchy bits on top and just a drizzle of lemon icing.
I was a bit disappointed because this wasn't as nice as I was expecting it to be. Really too much on the top of the donut which in my view overpowered the filling and the rest of the donut. Their previous meringue had a lemon and I believe a kreme filling and the donut had a layer of meringue on top. The only issue with the meringue was that it easily came stuck to the top of the box or if you accidentally touched the top of the donut it would look ruined. Apart from that it was very nice and probably one of the best donuts Krispy Kreme have ever produced. This new one was too much!!
