French fries brought to a completely different level. They may be not healthy, but they are delicious. I first tried Canadian poutine last summer when I was in the states. My friend made them as a side dish with some burgers. You can have them as a side dish, main course and not to mention how well they go with beer.
Ingredients:
4 pounds potatoes
4 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup flour
1 clove of garlic, minced
4 cups beef stock
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoon worchestershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste
some oil for frying
3 cups cheddar cheese
Cut the potatoes and place them in a bowl full of cold water. Place the bowl in the fridge and leave them there while you are making the sauce.
Heat the butter in a pan and add the flour. Cook, stirring, for about 2 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 2 more minutes. Pour in the beef gravy and add the ketchup, the worchestershire and season with salt and pepper. Cook everything for about 6 minutes. Keep the gravy over the lowest setting while you fry the potatoes.
Put some oil in a pan and fry the potatoes until they are tender, but crispy. For about 4 minutes. When they are fried , drain them on paper towels so the oil is absorbed.
Put the fries in pan, cover them with the cheese and pour the gravy on top of them.
Put the pan in the previously heated oven and leave them there for 5-10 minutes.
Grab a beer and enjoy!!!
