Hey Everyone!
As promised here is the full write up about my 96 hour fast. I will be breaking it up by day and a few other things.
First of all, why did I do this?
As mentioned in my previous post, I did this for multiple physical and mental benefits. One of the big ones for me was resetting my relationship with food. I needed to remind myself to "Eat to live, not live to eat". Though this sounds silly there was a point in my life where I was not eating strictly to fuel my body. I was eating because food was my life.
Day 1:
Day 1 went amazing for me, but this could have been because I regularly fast for around 20 hours per day. I felt almost no hunger and did not notice an real energy decrease. Dare I say, all was normal.
Day 2:
The morning of day 2 way just as easy as day 1, but that ended around the 42 hour mark. Around this time I felt a great amount of hunger and had even considered ending the fast, but I was determined to stick to what I had started. I ended up going to the gym, which for some reason made me feel a ton better. I went to bed that night not feeling much hunger.
Day 3:
This is when things got really easy. I was not feeling much hunger. When I would it would go away after an hour or so. I would simply drink some green tea or black coffee to help with the hunger as well. I found that this did have the downfall of making me feel slightly ADHD. The gym that night also went well. I was able to add 5lbs to most of my major lifts which I do weekly. I was unsure if I would be able to due to the fast, but it was not problem.
Day 4:
This was just as easy as Day 3. I had no problem keeping the fast all day. Though I did not learn my lesson about the excessive amounts of caffeine from the tea/coffee. I ended up working until around 8pm, which was great because my fast was set to end at 10pm. When I got home I waited around until 10:00 at which time I made a Keto Meal shake. I wanted to break this fast with something liquid and light. I've heard of heavy meals after an extended fast causing sickness. After this meal stayed down without an issue I went ahead and had a Keto Pizza.
Total Weight loss:
Though the fast I lost around 10 lbs. Since I follow a keto diet regularly, I can assume that it wasn't all glycogen and water as those substances left my body long ago. As I'm writing this almost 12 hours and 2 meals later, I have only regained around 2 lbs of that weight.
What I Learned:
Overall, I learned a lot about my body and my hunger from this experiment. I learned that my body can function much better, for much longer than I initially thought. Typically I would feel hunger and thought that I would need to eat immediately or something bad might happen. This is clearly not the case. This also put me into deeper levels of ketosis than I have ever seen. I plan on doing an extended fast like this several times per year.
