Greetings!
It has been a while since I cooked for my family (which I missed very much) because I am quite busy but now that I have some time to spare I prepared a special dish that my whole family loves, it is called "Ginataang Kalabasa at Sitaw na may Pinatuyong Hipon" or "Squash and String Beans with Coconut Milk and with Dried Shrimps".
I started to know this dish when I relocated from one town to another (for studying) when I was just in elementary or the 1980s to be exact, shows my age, haha. At first, I am amazed by it because in our town I used to see my relatives use coconut milk only on "kakanin" or "Sweet Delicacies" but in another town that I relocated to for schooling, they are using coconut milk on viands. At first, I am not minding this dish but when I tasted it, oh boy, it is delicious, it is even more delicious if you combine it with Beef or Pork.
So, without further ado, here's how I cook this dish...
- Squash
- String Beans
- Coconut Milk
- Green Pepper
- Ground Black Pepper
- Cooking Oil (for sauteeing)
- Salt (to taste)
Peel and slice the squash into irregular cubes
Slice the string beans
Peel and slice the onion
Prepare the green pepper
Prepare the coconut milk
Prepare the ground black pepper
Prepare the dried shrimps
1. Fry the dried shrimp
2. After frying, add the onions
3. Add the squash
4. Add the green pepper
5. Add the string beans
6. Stir
7. Add the coconut milk
8. Add the ground black pepper
9. Add some salt (to taste), let them boil until both the vegetables are cooked
10. When the squash and the string beans are cooked remove them from heat, and it is done...
