Este mes he estado viendo varias nuevas películas navideñas y por alguna razón que no podría precisar le he prestado mucha más atención a las comidas que nombran o aparecen en ellas, lo cual me puso a pensar en el sabor de la Navidad y en las grandes diferencias que pueden tener esos sabores de acuerdo a los países. En uno de esos films hablaban de la crema de arroz que siempre suelen comer y en otra mencionaban que comían pescado durante la Nochebuena, estos son solo dos ejemplos de comidas especiales que preparan en otros países para celebrar esta fecha, sabores que distan mucho de aquellos que suelo probar en Navidad.
This month I have been watching several new Christmas movies and for some reason that I could not pinpoint I have paid much more attention to the foods they name or appear in them, which got me thinking about the taste of Christmas and the big differences that can have those flavors according to the countries. In one of those films they talked about the cream rice that they always eat and in another one they mentioned that they eat fish during Christmas Eve, these are just two examples of special meals that they prepare in other countries to celebrate this date, flavors that are far away from those that I usually taste at Christmas.

So what does Christmas taste like to me?
La Navidad tiene muchos sabores para mí, en general son sabores fuertes, pues en esta festividad la mesa suele vestirse de lujo y se adquieren algunos productos para preparar platillos especiales que comemos, generalmente, una vez al año, como lo es el caso de las hallacas y del pan de jamón.
Christmas has many flavors for me, in general they are strong flavors, because in this festivity the table is usually dressed in luxury and some products are acquired to prepare special dishes that we eat, generally, once a year, as is the case of hallacas and pan de jamón.
Llevo unos dos años preparando las hallacas, siempre lo hacía mi abuela, pero ya me pasó la batuta. Yo voy preparando mi guiso con tiempo, nunca me ha gustado cocinar con prisa o cansancio, pues siento que la cocina es un espacio dónde se debe disfrutar para poder obtener resultados agradables al paladar.
I have been preparing the hallacas for about two years, my grandmother always did it, but she passed the baton to me. I prepare my guiso with time, I have never liked to cook in a hurry or tiredness, because I feel that the kitchen is a space where you should enjoy to obtain pleasant results to the palate.
Entonces entre mis sabores de Navidad aparece esta rica preparación que es una mezcla de carne de res y cerdo, junto a alcaparras y aceitunas, entre otros ingredientes.
So among my Christmas flavors is this rich preparation that is a mixture of beef and pork, along with capers and olives, among other ingredients.
El Pan de Jamón, por su parte, tiene ese delicioso sabor a jamón ahumado, junto a la tocineta, y vuelve a hacerse presente el sabor de las aceitunas, ahora acompañadas del dulzor de las pasas.
The Pan de Jamón, meanwhile, has that delicious smoked ham flavor, along with bacon, and the flavor of olives is present again, now accompanied by the sweetness of raisins.
Otros sabores infaltables en mi mesa son los que dan vida a la ensalada de pollo a la cual me encanta agregarle cebollín, pues este sabor queda de lujo con las papas y aprovecho el caldo donde he sancochado el pollo para aporte más sabor al aderezo de la ensalada, junto a la mayonesa y las yemas de huevo cocidas. ¡Soy una fan de la cremosidad de esta ensalada!
Other flavors that cannot be missed at my table are the ones that give life to the chicken salad to which I love to add chives, because this flavor goes great with potatoes and I take advantage of the broth where I have parboiled the chicken to add more flavor to the salad dressing, along with mayonnaise and cooked egg yolks. I am a fan of the creaminess of this salad!
Ya es costumbre que en estas festividades una prima nos invite a su casa para compartir alguno de sus platillos, esta vez nos recibió con un delicioso pasticho, así que se suman esos sabores a mi Navidad. El postre fue un rico pastel de zanahoria, brindamos con vino tinto por este año 2022, lleno de retos y aprendizajes.
It is now customary that during the holidays a cousin invites us to her house to share some of her dishes, this time she welcomed us with a delicious pasticho, so those flavors are added to my Christmas. The dessert was a rich carrot cake, we toasted with red wine for this year 2022, full of challenges and learning.
Otro sabor navideño que este año estará en mi hogar es el sabor de las uvas, listas para despedir el 2022 junto a las doce campanadas.
Another Christmas flavor that will be in my home this year is the taste of grapes, ready to say goodbye to 2022 together with the twelve bells.
Las ocasiones especiales van de la mano de una rica comida y es una bendición poder disfrutar de ellas en nuestra mesa. Cuando hablo de rica comida no me refiero a nada lujoso ni rimbombante, hablo de una comida hecha con cariño y que se ha ganado con el trabajo honesto y con el corazón tranquilo. Espero que tu mesa este llena de bendiciones, de deliciosos sabores, de agradecimiento por cada bocado. ¡Disfruta de cada momento en compañía de tus seres queridos!
