Hi! it's me again, Nadia. Today I want to share some unique food from my country, Indonesia. Can you guess what is it? Yes, It's Called "Kue Bugis"!
"Kue" means cake in Indonesia, and "Bugis" is the name of one ethnic in Indonesia. Even it's called "Kue", I don't think it's taste or have a texture like cake. This cake is made from glutinous rice flour, and on the inside there is a sweet coconut. This cake is wrapped with young banana leaves and has a shape of a small triangle.
Sometimes, you can find this cake has a green color with brown coconut because it use brown sugar, and sometimes you can find it has dark purple color with white coconut because it's use sugar.
This cake wrapped by young banana leaves, so the leaves is not gonna cracked when it boiled. Young banana leaves has a smooth and flexible texture. This is what it looked like if you haven't open it.
and this is the difference between you banana leaves and 'not too young' banana leaves (lol). It has different color, texture, and flexibility. These leaves will be used in different ways and different foods.
(Left: banana leaves, Right: young banana leaves)
Are you interested in knowing the taste? Or maybe you want to know more about Indonesian cakes? Let me know.
