Potato cilor is a fairly popular snack in Indonesia. Cilor is an abbreviation for "tepung aci (tapioca) with eggs," a mixture of tapioca flour and mashed potatoes that is boiled into round shapes resembling meatballs and then fried with eggs.
Hi, foodies! I’m so happy to share this recipe with all of you. Some of my recent posts on Peekd had issues—the images were missing—and I’m not exactly sure what happened to my account. I’ve been trying to figure it out, but I still haven’t found the cause. Maybe you know what happened—feel free to leave a comment on my post here. I’m trying to learn from my mistake and fix my post today; hopefully it works out and there are no issues with the Peekd app I’m using.
Back to my recipes, Well, this time the recipe is quite simple—a popular snack from school that’s very common where I’m from. I’m trying to adapt it to my taste today. As I mentioned above, cilor is indeed very popular in Indonesia, with a variety of variations, but today I’m trying to incorporate potatoes into the batter—hopefully this works out.
Well, aren’t you curious about the step-by-step preparation process? Let’s take a look at the steps below.
Ingredients
150 grams of potatoes
3 tablespoons of potato starch
¼ teaspoon of salt
¼ teaspoon of bouillon powder
1 clove of garlic
Water as needed
Cooking Procedure
Mash the garlic and salt by hand.
Next, prepare the boiled potatoes; while they’re still hot, mash them until smooth in the bowl containing the mashed garlic and salt.
Add ground pepper if you want it spicy, and also add bouillon powder, stirring until well combined. Don’t forget to add flour.
Shape the dough into balls until finished, then boil them briefly in boiling water. Remove and drain.
Then crack 1 egg, dip the boiled dough balls in it, and fry in hot oil until golden brown.

The potato cilor is ready to serve—just add chili sauce and mayonnaise. Look how beautiful it turned out! I intentionally skewered them on satay sticks to make them easier to handle and more appealing when served. This snack is absolutely fantastic with an incredible flavor; in my opinion, this potato cilor is incredibly delicious.
The combination of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors blends perfectly in the cilor dough, which is shaped into balls that aren’t hard at all—the texture is incredibly soft. I really love it.
