It was half past midnight and we were looking for something to eat. During the festive shopping period, it's a common culture here to spend the weekend till late at night. We were up to 12 at the mall and were pretty hungry. Fortunately, there was a street food court just in front of the market.
Dhaka is popular for its street food culture. There are hundreds and thousands of food carts in every corner of the city. To be honest, some of the best food experiences I have ever had was from the street food stalls. This food court is popular for its good food quality and very reasonable price. And I have to agree with both of the points.
Let me share my experience.
We ordered 'Doi Fuchka' means a popular spicy snack with 'Doi/yogurt'. The chickpea-filled fluffed puri was full of different spices. They sprinkled some 'chanachur' - the yellow thing you are seeing on the top alone with some mint+coriander chaat. You can guess, it was a blast of flavor with all the ingredients.
If you are a spice lover you will definitely say yes to this snack.
One plate of Fuchka usually costs $.50-$1.5 from place to place. And one serving is enough to fill your hungry stomach. It's a perfect snack at any time, not too heavy or not so light either. Every Bangali loves Fuchka.
The best thing about street food is, you can customize your food in real time and see the cooking/making process. I found this place generally better than many other food courts. But as it's beside the main road which is usually very busy all of the time so it gets a bit messy.
I don't like the way people were throwing used tissue and paper cups here and there. But every day the authority cleans out the place so they can start fresh.
One thing I have to approve of is that the food carts were comparatively clean compared to the street. The sellers seemed concerned about this. Also, they were very hospitable.
Later, we had some tea from another stall. We took a rickshaw and roam the city a little bit. It was a perfect festive vibe. We came back very late at night, around 1.30 am which we usually never do. It's okay to do this is a festive time, right?
Have a good day, everyone.
