Hey Hive!
Recently, the Singapore government announced that there will basically be another lockdown, so unfortunately, we're unable to eat in restaurants now and can only do takeaways. We're also limited from gathering in groups of more than 5 people which kinda sucks. But it's a necessary sacrifice to make sure we're all safe from the pandemic. Vaccinations are still being rolled out to everyone, but it'll be a while until everyone is safe I think.
In the meantime, I have a few more foodie places to share! This time it's a shop from Don Don Donki again, called Ajifuku!
If you're unfamiliar, Don Don Donki is the alternative name of Donki Hote; a Japanese discount store chain that sells pretty much everything! They have super huge outlets in Japan that are typically entire buildings that are more than 5 stories high!

Donki Hote is definitely one of our favourite stores and is one of our go-to shops whenever we're in Japan for snacks and souvenirs. So we were so excited when they decided to venture out of Japan and chose Singapore as their first entry overseas!
Singapore's Donki is slightly different and is undoubtedly more expensive, as expected, but the one thing I definitely like about Singapore's Donki is the food courts! They have a whole range of Japanese stalls selling different Japanese foods I'm often spoilt for choice!
Previously we came to Don Don Donki and I had sushi and Sean had a yummy tendon! They actually have quite a few different shops in Donki there so this time we decided to try something different!
But anyway, Ajifuku has a Kakiage Tendon that looked really interesting since it was literally a tower of tempura rising from the bed of rice!
They also had some interesting promotions going on for different types of dons. It's cool to see how they try to adapt to Singapore's tastes but I'm not sure how it tastes.
I wanted some tempura so I decided on the Ebi Ten Tamago Don, which includes 3 ebi tempura and some egg!
And Sean ordered the Kakiage Tendon, of course.
And it looked so cool! It really was a tempura tower and it looked so crispy too!
The food smelled so goood! I was so excited to dig in and especially try the kakiage!
After a couple more shots we tucked in! And the kakiage was indeed very crispy! The rice was a tad plain though, and the ebi could've been crispier, but it was alright.
The kakiage was actually just made up of different types of vegetables, but it was cool how they combined it together into a tower like that, and definitely very eye-catching for sure.
I think the rice wasn't really like usual Japanese rice, and the thing about tendon is I think it gets plain after a while, and the sauce wasn't helping much. So overall, it was alright. I think my ebi tamago don was average, and the kakiage was interesting but it did get plain after a while.
It's definitely a cool shop, but we've had way better tendons before. I know I shouldn't compare to those we've had in Japan but really every don I've had in Singapore pales in comparison to those we had in Japan, unfortunately.
Regardless, it is still pretty good, so if you wanna give it a try for yourself, head over to Don Don Donki!
Thanks so much for reading!
