Hey Hive!
Now that it's been quite a while since Singapore has has been out of lockdown, or what our government has termed "circuit breaker", restaurants have been operating pretty much as usual aside from implementing safe distancing measures. We've also been eating out more and trying new places!
And one of these new places is Super Sub!
We were at Sean's usual hangout in town, i.e. a mall called Suntec City, and their new hotdog sub looked pretty enticing. Tbh it just reminded me of the Friends episode where Joey said there was a meatball sub that was the greatest sandwich in the world! So much so that he actually risked his life for it.

But anyway, since we've never tried this stall before we figured why not give it a shot. Granted, I'm not as huge a fan of sandwiches as Joey, but I do enjoy the occasional sub. Actually fun fact but I never liked Subway because I didn't know they could toast the sandwich and I don't like cold food. But then I tried it in Finland and it was actually not too bad.
But Super Sub is supposedly better than Subway because they have special gourmet subs (which is also why it's more expensive). And their subs look like they were stuffed to the brim with fillings that they actually offer spoons to scoop out the fillings if it's too big to eat it in the sub itself.

They have quite a menu with pretty unique toppings I would say. Mostly Mexican and Italian-influenced, with ingredients like jalapenos, cherry tomatoes, guacamole and bolognese.

Even though I'm not a big fan of spaghetti, we ended up trying the fiery chic bolognese. We only got one to share since we weren't sure if it was gonna be good. So after placing our order, we got to see them preparing it on the spot.
The shop itself is located in the mall basement, and it's a standalone shop so it's somewhat out in the open. But there are a couple of open tables and chairs for patrons of the stalls along the aisle to sit and eat. It can be pretty crowded on weekends though so it might be tough to get seats then.
They do have a sort of bar counter at the actual shop but the counter itself is pretty small and narrow.
Not long later, our sub was ready! It actually looked pretty good, and smelled like spaghetti. I would've preferred if the cheese on top was slightly melted and warm instead of just sprinkled on though. But it definitely looked just like their pictures which was a good sign.
So after a couple of foodporn shots we decided to sit down and try it out.
The sub itself was definitely very big and wide; I kinda had a hard time taking that first bite. All the fillings were threatening to come out if I so much as held the bun. It was alright though; the bun was soft and fluffy, the bolognese was warm and fresh and not too tomato-ey. And it was definitely was advertised. But the cold cheese on top kinda ruined it a little since I don't like cold food. And it in turn made the bolognese a little cold too instead of the other way around.
Overall I think it tasted alright, but it wasn't my kind of sandwich. For one, I like my bread to have a toasted crust on the outside while still being soft on the inside. And I like my fillings to be hot. Super Sub unfortunately did not check any of the boxes. I guess I'm a little picky when it comes to sandwiches since I eat bread practically everyday. Or I just didn't like the style of sandwich that Super Sub offers.
The tortilla chips were alright though, and it tasted good with the bolognese. But I felt misled since the bolognese was not fiery at all. There wasn't even much spice in it.
I think the sub itself would be filling for one person, but definitely did not satisfy the two of us. Granted, I was really hungry then so it would've taken quite a bit for me to be full but still.
If you like soft sandwiches and slightly cold toppings, I'd say Super Sub is worth a try. But if not, I'd say stick to Subway. They even have crispy chicken cutlet patties now and as a fan of crispy stuff (and toasted sandwiches), I'd say that's always a win.
