Of course I had like 15 years to prepare for my little sister's special day, but true to form, I always leave everything to the last minute. Actually it all started just 20 days ago, when it occurred to me that I wanted to make my outfit for her big party, instead of buying a ready-made dress. After consulting with my seamstress friend about the possibility of doing it together and in such a short time, and having received a positive response, we both started working on one part of the project. To date, she has already made a little progress and I, I haven't even turned on the sewing machine, still having the party just this weekend 😵.
Por supuesto tuve como 15 años para prepararme para el día especial de mi hermana menor, pero fiel a mi estilo, siempre dejo todo para último momento. En realidad todo comenzó hace apenas 20 días, cuando a último minuto se me ocurrió que quería confeccionar mi outfit para su gran fiesta, en lugar de comprarme un vestido ya hecho. Después de consultar con mi amiga costurera sobre la posibilidad de hacerlo en conjunto y en tan poco tiempo, y haber recibido una respuesta positiva, ambas nos pusimos a trabajar cada una en una parte del proyecto. Al día de la fecha ella ya avanzó un poco y yo, yo ni siquiera prendí la máquina todavía teniendo la fiesta justo este fin de semana 😵.

I tried hard not to wear/make black dresses like the ones I usually have in my closet. This color always fits well with everything, but I wanted to wear something different this time. Some time ago I was at my aunt's house and she had a beautiful long pink dress. We played around with it a bit and I took a couple of photos: I liked how it looked on me, so I thought it would be interesting to make my own dress in pink. If you're wondering why I don't wear this dress for my sister's birthday, one of the reasons is that we recently had another 15th birthday party and my aunt wore it: it would be pretty obvious that I would wear it now too 😅.
Me esforcé mucho para no usar/hacer vestido negro como los que generalmente tengo en mi armario. Este color siempre queda bien con todo, pero quería vestir algo diferente esta vez. Hace un tiempo estaba en casa de mi tía y ella tenía un vestido hermoso y largo en color rosado. Jugamos un poco con él y me tomé un par de fotos: me gustaba como me quedaba, así que me pareció interesante hacer mi propio vestido en color rosa. Si se preguntan por qué no uso este vestido para el cumpleaños de mi hermana, una de las razones es que hace poco tuvimos otra fiesta de 15 años y mi tía lo usó: sería muy evidente que yo también lo use ahora 😅.
The main problem with this project is time. Twenty days to do it seems like a short time since my friend has exams to take and I had a trip planned in the middle (which I'm just coming back from). Before I start my trip, we get together to go shopping for the fabrics and a few days later we get together to do the first molding test for the skirt. What I wanted was a long skirt but open on the sides and that is what she did, first in a test fabric to ensure the measurements 😀.
El principal problema con este proyecto es el tiempo. Veinte días para hacerlo se ven como poco tiempo ya que mi amiga tiene examenes que rendir y yo tenía un viaje planeado en medio (del que estoy regresando justo ahora). Antes de que yo empiece mi viaje nos reunimos para ir a comprar las telas y algunos días después nos juntamos para hacer la primera prueba de moldería de la falda. Lo que yo quería era una falda larga pero abierta en los costados y eso fue lo que ella hizo, primero en una tela de prueba para asegurar las medidas 😀.

I really appreciate my friend for getting to work so quickly and committing to this project despite the busy schedules we have in our lives as responsible adults. She's never made a skirt like this so it's a good opportunity for her to practice a bit. You can read a bit about their progress with this part here 😃.
Realmente le agradezco a mi amiga por haber puesto manos a la obra tan rápido y haberse comprometido con este proyecto a pesar de las agendas ocupadas que tenemos en nuestras vidas de adultos responsables. Ella nunca hizo una falda como esta así que es una buena oportunidad para que practique un poco. Pueden leer un poco sobre su avance con esta parte aquí 😃.
As for my part... the percentage of progress that I have for now is 5% 😂. I just bought the lace fabrics to make the top, which I plan to be similar to the one I made some time ago, but without the straps on the neckline. The problem is that I don't have pink elastics and I couldn't find them either, so I had to buy them in white. In order for the color to resemble the fabric a little more, I thought of dyeing it with brown: of course it didn't turn out the same, but at least it turned a shade of bright white. To line the cups inside and for the top straps I'm going to use the same fabric as the skirt. Everything looks beautiful in my mind, just need to make it happen 😅.
En cuanto a mi parte... el porcentaje de avance que tengo por ahora es 5% 😂. Solo compré las telas de encaje para hacer el top, que planeo que sea similar al que hice hace algún tiempo, pero sin las tiras en el escote. El problema es que no tengo elásticos rosados y tampoco conseguí, así que tuve que comprarlos en color blanco. Para que el color se asemeje un poco más al de la tela se me ocurrió teñirlo con café: por supuesto no quedó igual, pero al menos bajó tono de blanco brillante. Para forrar las tazas por dentro y para los breteles del top voy a usar la misma tela que la de la falda. Todo se ve hermoso en mi mente, solo falta hacerlo realidad 😅.
Now, a bit of the chaotic schedule that awaits me this week: the birthday party will be on Saturday and I'm going to get home from my trip on Tuesday. As I have other things to do, I will only have Wednesday available to sew and Friday to go to my friend's house to get the skirt. I don't like to be pressured that it has to go well the first time, but it has to be that way because I have little time. But "go easy if you're in a hurry" is what they say, so I'll do that. Ahora, un poco del caótico cronograma que me espera esta semana: la fiesta será el sábado y yo voy llegar del viaje a mi casa el martes. Como tengo otras cosas que hacer, solo tendré disponible el día miércoles para coser y el viernes para ir a la casa de mi amiga a buscar la falda. No me gusta estar presionada a que me tiene que salir bien a la primera, pero es que así tiene que ser porque tengo poco tiempo. Pero "ve con calma si estas apurado", es lo que dicen, así que eso haré. Deséenme suerte, amigos de Needle Work Monday 😂.
