Hello everyone! Today I am going to share how to make puttu.
It is an Indian food. It is basically steamed ground rice in simple terms. It looks cylindrical in shape with some filling. It can be eaten as breakfast or as a tea time snack. The texture is soft and tastes good which is why it is one of my favourite meals. I am the one who insisted my mother to get the ingredients so that I can have some yummy homemade puttu.
Ingredients
- Puttu flour
This is ready-made puttu flour made specially for the snack. However, alternatively you can also use rice flour but you need to add salt to it.
- Grated coconut
- Brown sugar
Method
This is the puttu maker. It is like a little cooker that can be used to cook to puttu. It helps to get the job done more conveniently.
First of all, add some water to the puttu flour. The water should be only a small amount and just enough to make it damp. It should have a texture that looks like the flour is 'cracking' and not become like the play dough. Then, take some of the flour and put it in the puttu maker.
After that, add some grated coconut. Next, add some brown sugar. Keep layering by alternating the grated coconut and brown sugar. When there is a small space left, add some flour at the end.
Then cover the puttu maker with a lid and turn the fire on. Let the puttu cook. It should be ready in about 15 minutes.
Puttu is ready =) It can be eaten as it is or with some curry/gravy.
Look how it 'glows' with the flash on! :D
Thank you for dropping by and I wish you happy cooking if you would like to try it! ☺☺☺
