South Park making fun of everything again [ENG/ESP]

On my lunch break there is always an episode of South Park to watch. I really am a fan of the series and today that it's back in the middle of a controversy, it's a good time to remember my favorite episodes and to talk about the latest controversial episode.

En mi hora de almuerzo siempre hay un episodio de South Park para ver. Realmente soy fanático de la serie y hoy que vuelve a estar en medio de una controversia, es un buen momento para recordar mis episodios favoritos y para hablar del último polémico episodio.

I haven't wanted to subscribe to Paramount Plus, because I have a lot of streaming accounts and less free time than I'd like, but, Rupaul's Drag Race and South seem to be reason enough to pay for that particular service. I love South Park, whenever I have time and want to de-stress, I opt to randomly pick an episode and enjoy it. I love how they have made fun of everything that might seem politically incorrect: religions, politicians, celebrities and world events.

This has cost its producers several threats, lawsuits and scandals. But, South Park resists, even though they have had to eliminate several episodes and face criticism for some other controversial chapters, this show refuses to be a victim of the crystal generation, although satire and black humor are elements that I consider too transgressive for the sensitive times we live in.

The latest controversy arose last episode. The series has made fun of everyone and everything, but still manages to raise controversy, this time making fun of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Yes, the same ones who have fled Britain accusing their family and the media of media harassment, racism and misogyny. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, continue to be the talk of the town after releasing a documentary on Netflix and the publication of "Spare" Harry's memoir. And now they have been the target of South Park's mockery.

El Príncipe Harry y Meghan Markle, siguen dando de qué hablar después de publicar un documental en Netflix y la publicación de “Spare” las memorias de Harry. Y ahora han sido el blanco de las burlas de South Park.

With a hilarious tone and featuring two characters almost identical to the royal couple, the second episode of season 26 titled The Worldwide Privacy Tour, shows the a Prince and Princess couple from Canada arriving in South Park "to find a place where their privacy is respected." One of the funniest things about South Park is how they depict Canadians with big oval heads cut off at their mouths. And even though they never name the dukes, references to the dukes' lives are obvious.

Both are ridiculed ad nauseam, referencing the couple's quest for privacy as they try to get attention by bad-mouthing the monarchy and revealing secrets of their royal lives. Both are "roasted", in a collection episode that I enjoyed in English via TikTok, which I found quite funny. It's no secret to anyone that Meghan is seen as a woman who manipulates her husband; South Park pokes fun at that by posting on her actress profile the description of "Victim" as her favorite hobby.

After rumors that the couple would sue the producers of South Park, both have denied it to the media. It would be ridiculous, especially since all it would prove is that they have no sense of humor. But this is not the first time South Park has faced scandal. A few years ago they received threats for making fun of Mohammed, these chapters were eliminated. They have also made fun of Tom Cruise for belonging to Scientology, Mormons and everything that is happening in the world.

Con un tono hilarante y con dos personajes casi idénticos a la pareja real, el segundo episodio de la temporada 26 titulado The Worldwide Privacy Tour, muestra a la una pareja de Príncipes de Canadá llegando a South Park “para encontrar un lugar donde se respete su privacidad”. Una de las cosas más graciosas de South Park es como representan a los canadienses con grandes cabezas ovaladas que se cortan en sus bocas. Y a pesar de que nunca nombran a los duques, son obvias las referencias a la vida de los mismos.

Ambos son ridiculizados hasta el hartazgo, referenciando la búsqueda de privacidad de esta pareja mientras intentan llamar la atención hablando mal de la monarquía y revelan secretos de su vida real. Ambos son “rostizados”, en un episodio de colección que he disfrutado en inglés a través de TikTok, el cual me pareció bastante gracioso. Para nadie es un secreto que Meghan es vista como una mujer que manipula a su marido; South Park se burla de eso colocando en su perfil como actriz la descripción de “Victima” como su hobbie favorito.

My favorite episodes, for example, are almost always the most controversial. "The Death Camp of Tolerance" for example, where Professor Garrison plans to be fired for being gay is a gem. Also when the same professor undergoes a sex reassignment and becomes Miss Garrison, one of my favorite characters without a doubt. And how can we forget Randy becoming Lorde or saying "nigga" on national television.

"Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset" the cruel episode where they make fun of Paris Hilton was also very controversial, but also one of the funniest. Other stars have been upset like Barbra Streisand and Jennifer Lopez, also big companies like Disney have sued. This is no surprise, they have been the target of criticism and mockery of their business model for years. Mickey Mouse appearances are pure gold. Or let's not forget when the Jonas Brothers had their own episode where the producers made fun of the "chastity rings" that the members of this trio wore as teenagers.

Britney also had her own episode, another of my favorites. This one exaggeratedly showed the harassment of the media towards the singer, who in a fit of madness tries to commit suicide. But, if anything characterizes South Park is the immediacy with which they address current issues. Iconic are their pandemic chapters or when on the eve of the Immaculate Conception Day, they broadcasted a chapter where a statue of the Virgin Mary was bleeding from the anus. Or that Christmas special where instead of Jesus was born the antichrist, this is one of the best episodes of the series.

Mis episodios favoritos, por ejemplo, casi siempre son los más polémicos. “El campamento de la tolerancia” por ejemplo, donde el profesor Garrison planea ser despedido por ser gay es una joya. También cuando el mismo profesor sufre una reasignación de sexo y se convierte en la señorita Garrison, uno de mis personajes favoritos sin duda. “Tonta, Puta, Malcriada” el cruel episodio donde se burlan de Paris Hilton también fue muy polémico, pero también uno de los más graciosos. Otras estrellas se han molestado como Barbra Streisand y Jennifer López, también grandes empresas como Disney han demandado. Esto no es sorpresa, han sido durante años blanco de críticas y burlas a su modelo de negocio. Las apariciones de Mickey Mouse son oro puro. O no olvidemos cuando los Jonas Brothers tuvieron su propio capitulo donde los productores se burlaban de los “anillos de castidad” que los integrantes de este trío, usaban en su adolescencia.

Britney también tuvo su propio capitulo, otro de mis favoritos. En este se mostraba exageradamente el acoso de los medios hacia la cantante, quien en un arrebato de locura intenta suicidarse. Pero, si algo caracteriza a South Park es la inmediatez con la que abordan temas actuales. Son icónicos sus capítulos de pandemia o cuando en vísperas del día de la Inmaculada Concepción, emitieron un capitulo donde una estatua de la Virgen María sangraba por el ano. O aquel especial de navidad donde en lugar de Jesús nacía el anticristo, este es de los mejores episodios de la serie.

It would be impossible to summarize every single episode of the series. It has been tackling controversial topics since 1997, Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny will continue to make us laugh by making fun of absolutely everything, so long live South Park.
