It was another busy week, and we were feeling lazy. We didn't want to cook, so we decided to order our meals for the day. Since it has been a while since I ate rice, I asked for their recommendations on what they usually eat that has rice in it. My sister and her husband thought for just a second, and they answered the same thing, and almost at the same time: Senor Sisig.
Since my sister is a Filipina and grew up in the Philippines, she always tried to get her husband to eat Filipino dishes. My brother in law is pretty much willing to try anything and actually enjoys them as well. Senor Sisig is Burrito place, and serves Filipino Fusion dishes. I've had a fair amount of Burritos, and have tasted Filipino inspired ones in "Army Navy", so I was excited to compare it.
We ordered the three types of Burritos they have. "The Senor Sisig", a sisig [pork chopped into small pieces, fried, and served on a hot plate] inspired burrito. The "Tosilog" burrito, ToSiLog is a short term for Tocino [Usually sweetened pork], Sinangag [Fried Rice], and Itlog [Egg]. The third one is the "California Sisig" burrito, which has fries instead of rice. Each have a different combination of other ingredients, and the Tosilog even has a peppered vinegar on the side.
Since I'm a big eater, and they wanted me to try everything, I got a half of each, and they shared the other halves. My first impression of the burritos was that they were bigger than the ones in the Philippines. American servings tend to be bigger as a whole. Seeing the inside, each burrito has a lot of meat and ingredients, and they were completely packed.
As for the taste, they were delicious. I found out that the rice was Adobo garlic rice. The Tosilog seemed to be the simplest at first, but it had the most complex combination of taste with the slight sweetness from the tocino, saltiness from the adobo rice, and the sourness from the vinegar. It combined for a very interesting mix of flavors. The other ones were also very nice and flavorful.
After our brunch, we spend most of the day just hanging out in the house. We watched a lot of anime, played switch games, and watched some movies. For early dinner, we wanted to order food again. Since I really enjoyed the Hotboys Chicken Sandwich, they recommended another chicken place; Fire Wings.
They were the ones who ordered, so I wasn't exactly sure which flavors we had, but I think we had the Original Buffalo, the Louisiana Rub, and the Buffalo Stampede. My sister isn't very good with spicy foods, so we didn't get the Fire Wing flavor.
We got some fries, and to make it a bit healthier, we also ordered some vegetable sticks. When the food arrived, I didn't realize just how many each order was. It also came with a sort of sauce that they just slathered over the chicken.
As for the taste, it was delicious. It was well seasoned and the texture was perfect. It was crunchy on the outside, and soft in the inside. Even though they were wings, there was a good amount of meat in each piece. The sauce/dip also provided a lot of flavor and spice. We paired the meal with some sake to counterbalance all the oil.
I can tell that my brother in law really likes it because I was still on my third piece, and he just finished his sixth. The fries and veggie sticks are really nice to eat in the middle to cleanse and reset the palate. We almost finished everything, but decided against it since it is night, and we tend to eat lighter for dinner.
To finish off the day, and to burn off some of the calories from today's meals, we decided to have a walk around their neighborhood. It was really cold, but the heat from the spice and the warm food was still fresh so it was actually pleasant. When we got back, they wanted to sleep earlier so they wake up early and go for a run. They usually follow a diet, so these cheat days are uncommon.
