Make a plan and commit 💪
I told myself that I would go to the gym several times a week back on September 28, 2021. That was over 500 days ago and I am happy to say that I am still getting to it.
I've certainly made a lot of progress in terms of strength and with that has arrived a massive confidence boost. Plus, my body feels better than it has in years.
When I say go to the gym, that is not the only option. Some type of physical exercise is much better than none. We must find a way to balance a sedentary lifestyle that promotes longevity with a life full of fitness. Sure, living to 100 years old sounds great, but being in pain or lacking confidence for more than half of those years is not something I'd be willing to accept, at least not if I do not have to.
There is just something about setting a goal and then smashing through it. The feeling of success never gets old. Anytime things begin to get stagnant there are so many ways to switch it all up and make it feel brand new again.
There is a wealth of knowledge available online that will cost you a whopping $0. You can check out YouTube channels such as Athelean-X which well help put the science back into strength. So lack of knowledge is not a good excuse.
My excuses before starting my current streak were things like:
I don't have time
I am already in good shape
I don't have the confidence to go inside a busy gym
It costs too much
There were many things I would come up with to make it seem okay for being lazy. I eventually was pushed to get motivated by somebody and I haven't looked back since. I want to become better each day for as long as I can, not slowly deteriorate into a pile of bones with zero accomplishments.
If money is the issue, find a way to get active at no cost. Calisthenics are an underrated way to exercise. Body strength exercises will work wonders and make you much stronger than you are now.
If lack of time is your problem, then I suggest that you attempt to restructure when you go to bed and wake up each day. I understand that most of us work jobs that take up a great deal of our day. You may not feel like doing anything after a long day of work. This is what makes getting up a few hours early so important. If you can start your day with some physical activity that pushes you, you're sure to find the rest of the day easy and feel much better about yourself in the process.
If you think you are already strong and don't need fitness, ask yourself "Could I be stronger". Having increased strength levels can be useful in so many different scenarios in everyday life. Although getting active may be tough, it's good for you in the long run and will help establish a positive routine.
If you're afraid to go to the gym, find somebody to go with. I won't expect you to get over the fear right away, but with some consistent effort, you will find a way to be comfortable and confident. You might be lucky enough to have a home gym, if that's the case then you probably won't be using this excuse.
If I've made as much progress has I have in less than two years, I cannot wait to see where I am a few more years from now. It takes continued effort over a long period of time to receive the biggest benefits of fitness. If you can start, you may never want to finish.
