Presento una colección muy especial para mí, contiene algunos libros llevan casi cuatro décadas conmigo. Compañeros que me han acompañado fielmente de mudanza en mudanza hasta la actualidad.

Ya presenté mi colección de papeles, y esta es una colección paralela. Una colección que se fue armando a la par.

El origen, hay que buscarlo en mi curiosidad adolescente por lo nuevo... por lo que fuera, aunque esa "novedad" tuviera más de 60 años de historia. A la curiosidad se sumó el placer que me producía todo el mundo del arte... sus ideas, las propuestas y la estética como lenguaje.

Aunque también fue posible gracias a la gran oferta, que en los años 80,s y 90,s, se podía encontrar en Madrid de libro viejo y de segunda mano. Oferta a la que se sumaban las secciones de libros en oferta (casi regalados) que se encontraban en el Vips o en la Casa del Libro.

Por tanto, esta colección es la conjunción de tres variables: una pasión, mi curiosidad adolescente y una enorme oferta de libros muy económicos.

I present a collection that is very special to me, containing some books that have been with me for almost four decades. Companions that have faithfully accompanied me from move to move until today.

I already presented my collection of papers, and this is a parallel collection. A collection that was put together at the same time.

The origin can be found in my teenage curiosity for anything new... whatever it was, even if that “novelty” was more than 60 years of history. Added to my curiosity was the pleasure I derived from the whole world of art... its ideas, proposals, and aesthetics as a language.

It was also made possible by the wide range of old and second-hand books available in Madrid in the 1980s and 1990s. Added to this were the sections of books on sale (almost given away) that could be found in Vips or Casa del Libro.

Therefore, this collection is the combination of three variables: a passion, my teenage curiosity, and a huge selection of very inexpensive books.

El primer libro que presento pertenece (bueno, a mí 😂) a la editorial Taschen; en mi opinión un referente dentro de las publicaciones de arte. Como habrás visto en la fotografía está dedicado a la obra de Gaudí.

Parece ser quer este es el año de Gaudí y me apetecía comenzar con algunos libros dedicados a su obra: la un genio.

The first book I'm presenting belongs (well, to me 😂) to the Taschen publishing house, which in my opinion is a benchmark in art publications. As you can see in the photo, it is dedicated to the work of Gaudí.

It seems that this is the year of Gaudí, and I wanted to start with some books dedicated to his work: the genius.

El segundo libro, también es de Taschen. Si el primero se titula "Gaudí: obra completa", este segundo lleva el título de "Gaudí: obra arquitectónica completa". De los dos libros, me quedo con el primero.

El motivo no es otro que el acercamiento a Basílica de la Sagrada Família, mucho más completo en el primero. Incluye bocetos de la obra y otras notas muy interesantes para poder comprenderla.

The second book is also published by Taschen. While the first is titled “Gaudí: Complete Works,” this second one is titled “Gaudí: Complete Architectural Works.” Of the two books, I prefer the first.

The reason is simply that the first book provides a much more comprehensive overview of the Basilica of the Sagrada Família. It includes sketches of the work and other very interesting notes that help to understand the work.

El libro del Parque Güell, es nuevo, muy nuevo. Me lo regaló mi acompañante en la visita que realizamos el pasado año, en septiembre.

Puedo decir que es un gran recuerdo de ese día.

The book about Park Güell is new, very new. My companion gave it to me as a gift during our visit last year in September.

I can say that it is a great souvenir of that day.

Continuamos con el arte catalán. Nuestro siguiente protagonista es Joan Miró. Una de mis debilidades como pintor.

Estos "cuadernos catalanes" contienen muchos bocetos, notas y reflexiones del autor sobre el arte de la pintura. La verdad, es que es un libro más que interesante ya que nos acerca al proceso creador de un enorme artista como Miró.

We continue with Catalan art. Our next protagonist is Joan Miró, one of my favorite painters.

These “Catalan notebooks” contain many sketches, notes, and reflections by the author on the art of painting. The truth is that it is a very interesting book, as it brings us closer to the creative process of a great artist like Miró.

Nuestro viaje se detiene en el paradero de Goya... el gran genio aragonés. Tuve la gran fortuna de poder visitar, gracias a Hive account@palomap3, la exposición "Goya. Del museo al palacio" celebrada en La Aljafería, algunas de esas obras se encuentran impresas en los volúmenes dedicados a su obra que presento a continuación.

Our journey stops at the resting place of Goya... the great Aragonese genius. Thanks to Hive account@palomap3, I had the great fortune to visit the exhibition “Goya. From the museum to the palace” held at La Aljafería. Some of these works are printed in the volumes dedicated to his work that I present below.

Los siguiente no es exactamente un libro. Es una revista de cine ya desaparecida (creo) con una visión del cine muy particular, ya que su foco era la imagen. En realidad, parece más una revista de arte que la típica revista de cine.

Todo un gozo para la vista.

The following is not exactly a book. It is a film magazine that is no longer in circulation (I believe) with a very particular vision of cinema, since its focus was on images. In fact, it looks more like an art magazine than a typical film magazine.

A real feast for the eyes.

Ahora saltamos a Salvador Dalí. El libro que presento es bastante curioso, pues recoge su cara más esotérico con obras repletas de simbología alquímica y hermética.

Now we move on to Salvador Dalí. The book I am presenting is quite intriguing, as it showcases his more esoteric side with works full of alchemical and hermetic symbolism.

Los siguientes dos tomos tratan sobre la historia del arte del México pre-hispánico. Dos tomos muy interesantes de un arte con mucha fuerza expresiva y un gran poder sugestivo.

The following two volumes deal with the history of art in pre-Hispanic Mexico. Two very interesting volumes on an art form with great expressive force and evocative power.

Vuelvo a hacer un poco de trampas y lo que sigue no es exactamente un libro, sino el catálogo de una exposición con una propuesta, que en su momento me gustó bastante.

Una forma muy interesante de acercarse a la historia del arte y a las diferentes épocas y expresiones de éste ha consistido en la lectura de pequeños "manuales" de arte.

Libros escuetos que que de forma breve presentaban a un autor o escuela. Aquí dejo unos ejemplos de este tipo de libros.

A very interesting way to approach art history and its different periods and expressions has been through reading short art “handbooks.”

These are concise books that briefly introduce an artist or school. Here are some examples of this type of book.

Otra fuente de conocimiento fue la prensa escrita en un tiempo ya lejano, y digo fue, porque ya no es 😭.

Hubo un momento en el que la prensa cumplió una valiosa labor cultural acercando el mundo del arte a la población en general.

"La guerra" de Otto Dix, es un libro repleto de ilustraciones sobre el horror de la guerra. Un libro todavía vigente por desgracia.

El siguiente libro aborda en varios idiomas y de forma muy escueta las diversas épocas del artista. Para un primer acercamiento a Kandinsky no está mal.

The following book briefly covers the artist's various periods in several languages. It's not bad for a first introduction to Kandinsky.

No quiero extenderme mucho con el texto y seré breve con los próximos libros.

Están editados por H. Kliczkowski, con un papel de gran calidad y muy buenas imágenes. Pertenecen a una colección que reúne gran parte de las corrientes artísticas y artistas que más feliz me hacen.

El siguiente libro, que fue un regalo de alguien que me conoce muy bien, es toda una joya.

Se trata de los dibujos del director de cine Akira Kurosawa (Los siete samurais). Dibujos inspirados en sus guiones de sus películas y, al mismo tiempo, pruebas sobre el papel de escenas que después aparecerían en sus películas.

Y... También es un catálogo. El de la exposición celebrada en Madrid en 2011 por el periódico ABC.

The next book, which was a gift from someone who knows me very well, is a real gem.

It features drawings by film director Akira Kurosawa (Seven Samurai). These drawings were inspired by his film scripts and, at the same time, serve as sketches on paper of scenes that would later appear in his films.

And... it's also a catalog. The catalog of the exhibition held in Madrid in 2011 by the ABC newspaper.

No lo niego, soy un enamorado del constructivismo. El libro "Forma y estructura" recoge muchos ejemplos del constructivismo finlandés aplicado a la arquitectura y al diseño de objetos cotidianos.

I was fortunate enough to see some of the works featured in this book at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid.
