Sometimes you don't have to remember a place by what it has to offer, or by what you've seen while being there because likening it to cats or sunsets is perfectly fine.
In the end is all about the memories we create.
After visiting the 2in1 building that offered us plenty of historical details but also delighted our eyes with many species of fish through the aquarium available inside the museum (you can read more about it HERE), the moment to finally head back to home was already there.
While we 'enjoyed' a 16 hours long train ride on the way to Tulcea, there was no other way to return to Sibiu in a shorter time.
So we made sure to pick out a different route than the one we had when coming to Tulcea, for the sake to at least enjoy a different scenery during this crazy period to spend in 2-3 trains that we had to get used with.
I won't open up again the subject why a 7 hours long car ride takes more than double with by train as it's a pretty sensitive subject for Romania and if you've ever been here or had a train ride on this part of the globe, you might already understand the struggle. Especially when you get to realize how many places you could reach and explore during a 16 hours train ride.
Anyway, this post is going to be a bit different from what my travel posts look like because the most powerful memories I have from Medgidia will always remain the 20+ cats I noticed in a single place. And perhaps some of you already know that I am a cat mom for a few months already, which makes me feel these memories differently than when being created. Anyway, more about it a bit later.
So, while on the route we followed when coming to Tulcea we had a 2 hours long stop in Constanta where my boyfriend got to see the sea for the first time but also enjoy some precious moments at the Tomis Harbor, we opted in for a slightly different path to follow while going home. It's true that most of the cities we crossed were the same, but we did have the option to have that 2 hours long stop in Medgidia instead, which offered us enough time to walk around until the next train was coming by.
Luckily there was an old lady owning a small shop right in the train station, so we made sure to stop by and do some shopping with food to consume over the night we were going to spend in the train, and then started walking around to see what we can explore in Medgidia, that is known as one of the municipality of the Constanta county.
While the city played a pretty important role in the past, such as being amongst the most popular grain fair for the ottomans that were crossing this part of the city, these days is nothing but just one of the many forgotten cities of Romania where you can barely notice people on the streets, the single exceptions being the old people that refuse to leave behind their homes. Because there is really nothing to do in this city or activities for the teenagers that as soon as they grow up, they move to some bigger cities of the country which has the power to offer them a better future.
Anyway, before reaching to Medgidia, I did make my homework to see what we can explore with the thought of promoting it further when writing about it, but the single results were a Turkish bath and a mosque that weren't maintained during the time so they turned out in ruins and places for homeless people in 2023. With these sad thoughts, but also with the problem that they were quite far from the train station and we wouldn't have time to reach and explore them before our next train was coming by, we had to give up visiting them, so we made our way to a chiller place, away from the train station that we were already bored seeing over and over again during our trip.

Once we reached the Danube-Black Sea Canal which made us feel like we were still with one foot in our trip, we opened up our soda cans and started walking around.
From our train ride, I remember passing a really beautiful bridge that had its pillars entirely covered in graffiti, which made me want to see them closer and even take some pictures for this post. Unfortunately, that didn't happen either due to the distance and the inaccessibility caused by many abandoned dogs that crossed our path and made us not feel too safe to walk further.
So we dedicated some minutes simply starring at the water, looking out for fishes, talking about our trip together, but also check out the fishermen that seemed like having a lot of fun on the same place we were exploring.
Same place, different activities, and different memories - I guess that's the beauty of being different, I said to myself.

Anyway, before reaching that canal which made us feel both stressed and calm at the same time, we crossed a neighborhood at least interesting.
I feel sorry for not remembering its name, but it was literally the first neighborhood between the canal and the train station where we woke up being surrounded by more than 20 cats, of all colors, genders, and ages.
From that places I've seen in Romania, I came to conclusion that it's quite rare to notice an abandoned cat or dog on the streets just because they are often collected by shelters, so getting to see so many in a single place, was definitely something unique for us.
The funny part is that back then we didn't have a cat yet so we only felt special and blessed to be surrounded by so many cats, without even realizing that a few months later we will become parents of a very beloved and special tomcat, who's name is Sky and who learns us how new bounderies of love can be exceeded with each passing day.
After spending almost 24/24 and 7/7 in the company of my tomcat, I realized how important it is to have a cat around you and how much it can help you deal with negative thoughts and emotions, so honestly I wish there was at least one similar neighborhood in each country of Romania. From what I know there is a cafe with lots of cats inside but unfortunately, I didn't manage to visit it by now.
However, what I'm trying to say is that in such a big world that turns worse and worse with each passing day due to the people who ruin everything from nature to human interactions, the things that have the power to create a better world stay within small and simple things, which are mostly free but we are way too blind to look that direction due to the endless run over dreams that are almost impossible to reach in Romania which is the 2nd poorest country in Europe and amongst the most corrupted countries out there.

Anyway, as I said, I'd like to remember about Medgidia as the city of cats or the heaven of cat lovers because that's pretty much the best part of it from the time we had to spend there, but before having this post come to an end, I'd like to share another series of pictures with one of the beautiful sunsets I've seen back in the summer of 2022 when we had our trip.
So yeah, I guess no matter what places you get to visit and what they have to offer, it's your missing to create memories and find things to link to that city once you open up your heart and dig through memories.
And Cats & Sunsets sounds like a pretty good title for this chapter in my life, even though we ended up being infected (again) with COVID on the 2nd train we had back to Sibiu. But I won't take these memories further as I like keeping up only the good parts of everything and I'm really happy getting to explore the city of cats which also made me finally write down my first post in the Caturday community that I was following for so long and dreamed on the day when I'll be able to make a post for it.
