Banana Blossom with Sardines

The fragile stems of the bananas were effortlessly knocked down by the strong winds of typhoon Uwan, to the point that no stems were left standing, no stems persisted. The plants only left us some of their few blossoms. Gladly, my brother found these banana blossoms while strolling around the flooded area in our farm to see how's the condition of the poso or the hand water pump, timely enough for our breakfast.

This recipe is kinda just easy to prepare. It is not that complicated but the hassle is that it stains the hands while sorting the edible pieces out. So please stay tuned to follow this recipe.

PREPARE AND REMOVE OUTER LAYERS

Raw and whole banana blossom
We see the red outer peels of the blossom being removed and separated from the inner part of the blossom, those will be thrown away due to its tougher texture and bitter sappy taste. What we include to be cooked is the white one on the inner, these are softer. We also include the flowers inside, these are the petals of the blossom as shown below.

Removing banana blossom stigma
What we remove on the flower petals are the cotton buds-shaped head inside and these are called stigma, based on google.

Slice the banana blossom
Now we are going to slice the inner part of the banana blossom, slice them into thin pieces.
The sorted parts are ready so we will boil them first to remove the sappy taste and texture. After boiling it, we should strain the waters from it before sauteing with garlic and sardines.

Thankfully and timely after the typhoon, the DSWD officials from our barangay kindheartedly delivered relief goods for each of the affected residents including our family. So sardines is enough with the banana blossom, maybe go for banana blossom sisig cravings in another time. This is actually a great combination for me, and it gives me a sense of nostalgia while preparing it because this is the same as the very first recipe I have blogged here in hive.

Saute with garlic and sardines

Already cooked
So this was the cooked banana blossom with sardines recipe. This reminds me that there will always be spontaneous ways for us to get through each day, to strive for the time being and work yourself in your side hustles for another day.
Thank you for dropping by this blog. I hope you enjoy the recipe!
