Hello everyone!
My son Caleb is literally nuts about oatmeal. He could have it everyday, everyweek.
And I thought to share some ideas with you and how to not make the same oatmeal recipe over and over again. Let's not make oatmeal boring! Actually, there are so many combinations you could try, they're endless.
I first introduced oatmeal to my son at the age of 9-10 months old. Something like that. At that time the texture of oatmeal was fine like a paste. I used to blend it because as you can imagine, little babies under one year old have difficulties chewing and choking hazards can happen.
There are basically two ways of making oatmeal. One is to boil the oats in milk, water or plant based milk. And two, is to let the oats overnight in milk. I didnt try to give Caleb overnight oats (the second version) as he is little and I dont like the idea of having raw oats. Its better to be boiled for their digestive system.
My son is 4 years old but he already has a favorite oatmeal recipe!! It's the one topped with cacao powder, carob powder, cinnamom and honey.
I dont blame him! I love this recipe as well! Its hearty, chcocolatish and delicious! Its almost like a dessert.
Here are some photos of his favorite Oatmeal recipe with Cacao, Carob powder and Cinnamon.
The thing about Oatmeal is that you can get creative, you can make it plant based or you can have it with milk, water or whatever. Same with toppings. You can have fruits on top, honey, nuts and seeds, powders, jam, you name it!
In terms of health and nutrition, overall, Oatmeal is claimed have many health benefits like lowering blood pressure, helping with weight loss (probably because of the fiber intake), reduced risk of heart disease.
For kids they're high in fiber, nutrients and polyphenols (folates, B vitamins, Iron, Selenium, Copper, Manganese, Vitamin A), helps with digestion and prevents constipation. Also, they're gluten free, which makes a big difference for this category of people and kids that are gluten intolerance.
And for the parents oatmeal is a go to recipe because is so simple to make and keeps the kids full for hours.
So let's see some more Oatmeal recipes!

Cacao and Fruit Madness
This oatmeal was really really good and hearty and full of flavour! Delicious! Comfort food 100%.
This is a very Basic Recipe for Oatmeal
In a pan, bring the milk to a boil. Then add the oats and reduce heat to medium-low.
Cook, stirring occasionally for 10-15 minutes.
Remove from the heat, cover with a lid and let it stand for another 2-3 minutes.
Add your favorite toppings: peanut butter, peaces of apple, cinnamon, jam and almonds.
Notes
You can substitute regular milk with plant based milk, this is what I do pretty much everytime. You can use water too, or 50-50.
For this recipe right here, these are the ingredients:
- oats and milk
- cacao powder
- hemp seeds
- fruits (I had apples and bananas)
- peanut butter
- goji berries
- honey
The process is the same as I described it above. I just added cacao powder after the oats were boiled and mixed very well.
Peach and Blueberry Oatmeal
Ohhh this one!!! One of a kind!
Sautéed peaches 🤩🤤🤤🍑🍑 and blueberries on top of a hearty bowl of oatmeal.
The secret here is how to sautee peaches, but this is easy peasy, dont you worry about that!
Just add a bit of coconut oil in a pan, sautee the peaches for 5 minutes until they are soft. You can keep them more if you consider if you want a grilled texture. Add honey and mix well to get a nice coating.
Add cinnamon on top!
Strawberry Parfait Oatmeal
Ohh this is perfect in summer, as you can imagine!
You'll need:
- Fresh Strawberries
- Bananas
- Whipped coconut cream or yoghurt
- Granola
After having your oatmeal done, wait a bit to cool off. And then start adding layers of strawberries, yoghurt or coconut cream, granola and more strawberries! 🍓🍓
Hemp and Nutella Oatmeal
This is more like a dessert, to be honest! It was so so delicious!
Add one splash of nutella on top, some cacao powder and then hemp hearts. This is completely optional but i like their texture and plus, they're super super healthy!
Berries and Cinnamon Oatmeal
This is not fancy, at all. Its just a cup of oatmeal with berries, cinnamon and coconut butter on top.
Along the years, I've shared in here many Oatmeal recipes, feel free to take a look and get inspired down below.
Some of them are fantastic (at least for my taste) 😁. I mean especially the pear and cinnamon bowl, peanut butter and jam, sour cherries, peach jam and overnight oatmeal and granola in a jar.
