This 1945 edition of Joyce’s Ulysses (the year my father was born) came into my possession during one of my exhaustive searches at street stalls selling old books. It’s a book I cherish deeply. As for Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables, it came into my life during one of the most difficult times of my life, when I left my mother’s home at age 22, feeling the blows of existence firsthand. With those two volumes, I wept deeply in the lonely early mornings as I read about the miseries of Jean Valjean, Fantine, and Cosette.

This year I’m planning to do some spring cleaning at home; it’s just occurred to me that I could write a post about that. Well, that’s another matter. Today’s post focuses on a very common collection in homes: the book collection 📚.

Reading several posts, I noticed howkept repeating a phrase her aunt Juana, who took care of her, used to say. Although she doesn't know its meaning, it's not just her aunt who repeats it; her husband says it too when someone does something wrong: "a crazy person is a gift." So I took advantage of artificial intelligence and wanted to know what it meant, and this is what it told me:

Hive open mic week 312//cover " veinte años" by juancarlossaez
I'm going to perform it with just guitar and voice, trying to keep it as simple as possible. The guitar accompanies gently, without adding too much, and the voice is what truly carries the story. It's a song where if you overcomplicate it, it loses its beautiful character, so the idea is to let everything flow naturally.

I love photographing in the market because it is a mixture of everything: clothing, visuals, smells, flavors... You can even use your sense of touch! Everything joins together for an unforgettable experience. On the other hand, the designs on the streets are beautiful, like that toad that, when it rains, spurts water from its mouth—since the ancient times of the Incas! I also show you the entrance to the artisanal market and a man in complete inebriation (they cannot be missed in Cusco!).

n Havana, there are several places that feel almost mystical, but one in particular stands out above the rest; sometimes I compare it to an altar, sometimes to a border, and often to a large sofa where one can rest. Every time I return from taking photos, I usually sit in front of it to watch people go about their lives; there are many life stories deeply intertwined with that stretch of wall facing the sea

But before that happened, I upplanted a lot of them into larger cells to give the roots more room to establish. First up were the onions, which took quite some time.

I have wanted to come on for a good while and give some little updates on how life has been going for me, and also catch up with a bunch of the friends I've made here. Every time something happens, I can hear a voice in the back of my mind saying, "I should write a post about this," but then I continue on, without a single keystroke taking place.

Among all the things that happened to me last month, one was my birthday; exactly 30 days ago, I celebrated turning 42 with my family. In the past, women didn’t want to reveal their age so they wouldn’t seem old, but now our age is synonymous with experience and confidence—the very same qualities that keep us from hiding it. So we’re proud of our forties 🤭. Let me tell you how I spent my birthday, which I celebrated on March 1 this year since it didn’t fall on February 29.
