Hello you, hungry side of Hive, how are you?
Join me as I try not to kill my family members with my cooking. This time we are making pita bread with cheese and I have to be honest, my husband helped a lot, or better said did it all. It's simple, delicious and goes great with beer.
Let's see what's cooking!
Ingredients:
- 250g of Greek yogurt
- 5g of bicarbonate of soda
- 1 egg
- 30 ml oil
- 400g of flour
For the stuffing:
- 250g cheese
- 150g feta cheese
- 1 egg
We use our trustworthy bread maker to do all the mixing for us. This way you control the mess you make in the kitchen and you practice math while you figure out the scale.
Mix it all together and let it rest, or do as we did and leave it up to the machine to do all the work for you. The dough has a specific sent to it, due to bicarbonate of soda and it's almost nostalgic. Our grandmothers used to use it in cooking a lot more.
For the stuffing you need to beat an egg and grate the cheese, to make a smooth mixture to fill your dough with.
When the dough is ready, split it in to six equal sections and roll them out. Put a hefty amount of cheese mixture in the middle, form a ball by closing the dough and turn it up side down before rolling it again, forming a pita bread.
Buy a new frying pan, because you burned the last one, and put it over medium heat without oil. Place the made pita bread in side and look at the magic of rising dough. Looks beautiful, smells even better. Turn to the other side and cook until both sides get that golden brown color.
That's about it. Bake all of them and eat while hot. My little one also tried and loved it, what's there not to love?
Add a few olives and one cold beer when the kids go to bed and have a delicious meal!
With love,
Tamara
