There are several ways to bake cake without electric, gas or conventional ovens. Baking can be done on firewood, charcoal and on stove top successfully.
So if you don't have an oven or yours broke down. Just follow my detailed and easy instructions on how to successfully bake any Nigerian Cake on a stove top.
What You'll Need To Bake Cake:
• A large aluminium pot with a lid (cover), preferably an old pot.
• A rack or an aluminum bowl that can fit into the pot
• Foil paper (optional)
Notes:
• You can use medium-sized gravel stones, flat bricks or sand instead of aluminum bowl or rack at the bottom of the pot. But be very careful when making use of sand because it can accidentally get into the cake batter.
• If you plan to bake cake with sand or stones, make sure to wash the gravel stones thoroughly and also make use of clean sand without debris or dirt in it.
How To Bake Cake On Stove:
• Grease your baking pan with butter and then lightly dust with flour or line the pan with a parchment paper.
• Next, place an aluminum plate or iron rack into a clean empty big pot then tightly cover the pot and preheat on high heat for 10 minutes.
• Now, pour your prepared cake batter into the baking pan. Then gently open the now hot pot and put your cake pan on the hot rack.
• Place a foil paper (optional) in the pot before covering it tightly with the lid to prevent heat from escaping through the sides of the pot while baking.
Kitchen Tip: Do not place the pan directly on the bottom of the pot, else the cake will burn. There should always be a seperation between the cake pan and the hot pot.
• Bake the cake on medium heat for about 5 minutes, then reduce to low heat and continue baking for 15 to 30 minutes (depending on the size of cake you are baking).
Kitchen Tip: If you are making use of foil plate as a baking pan, then you need to check the cake earlier because it will get done faster.
• After 15 minutes, open the pot and dip a skewer/toothpick into the center of the cake to know if it is done. If the skewer comes out clean, then the cake is done baking.
• But if it comes out moist, let the cake bake for atleast 5 more minutes before you check again with the skewer.
• When the cake is done, take it out of the hot pot and leave to cool for 10 minutes before turning it over on a cake rack or plate. Serve and Enjoy!
