I've been thinking about this topic for some time now and figured today was a good day. I tend to prepare meals on a whim. Sure, I plan ahead sometimes when I'm buying groceries but as for planning meals with proper macros (I know what that means now), I just haven't put that much effort into it. I'm not an expert and I don't play one on TV. Make your own choices.
Meal prep is important so you can make sure your fat>protein>carbohydrate ratio is spot on for maximizing Keto. Planning begins when you purchase the goods...
The Shopping List
Stock your pantry with a variety of good quality oils like coconut, avocado, and olive. A variety of meat selections like bacon, beef, chicken, and fish are great sources of protein. Eggs are great for breakfast or as an anytime snack. Green vegetables and avocados are a must as well as cheese to make meal planning robust. Seeds and nuts for a little extra flavor can't hurt. I prefer to buy local and organic whenever possible, but I'm also a total Amazon whore. So don't judge me too much.
The Plan
Once you have the supplies all squared away, it's time to pick a day, Sunday maybe, to prepare all your meals for the week. You can make big batches of your Keto meals all at one time. Select what you are going to make and decide how many days that you will repeat and just do it. Mix it up a little, don't eat the same thing everyday because you will hate it pretty soon. I recommend getting prep boxes that are microwaveable and easy to clean like these...
Once you get all the food you are going eat for the week prepared, you will have convenient, macro efficient meals ready to go with minimal mealtime preparation needed.
Really a no-brainer that puts an end to the "did I eat enough fat today?" turmoil! When it's time to eat, you are set to macro the hell out of Keto!
Thanks for coming along on this journey. I post this Keto blog every Thursday and if you were one of the very few who did not see the previous installments, here they are...
